encspot lets you actually look inside the mp3 file, and if you then see
a solid bar at 128 with a file that is encoded at 320, something is wrong.
mp3val lets you easily check for files that have been tampered with, too.
you will be amazed how many files we all download that have incorrect
headers, mismatching length, and other inconsistencies. usually you might
not 'hear' anything, or not right away, but such files might not show up at
all in certain players, cannot be fast forwarded, break off towards the end,
and many of such inexplainable errors.
mp3val fixes many of them, if not
all. run your entire directory thru it, and see ...
