Concerning the apostrophe I was always taught to use it when it's (it is) replacing a letter that's missing.
Therefore cds is the plural - no apostrophe needed
Isn't - the apostrophe is replacing the 'o' of not
Can't - same thing
won't - the apostrophe is working hard to shorten 'will not'
The other odd usage of apostrophes is to make
names that end with 's' plural e.g.
Lucas' is correct - Lucas's isn't
Banks' is correct - Banks's isn't
