One time I accidentally ** ended up at a book signing at a Barnes&Noble bookstoor of Bob Gruen, a legendary photographer who took the famous Lennon in the New York City t-shirt photo ( New York, NY )
I believe at the time he had just released a documentary of the New York Dolls and he spent some time talking about his time with them. To be perfectly honest, I hadn't a clue who the New York Dolls are, nor CBGBs, nor much about anything rock'n'roll wise. I just had some time to kill, so I stayed for the signing. Needless to say I had learned a whole lot since

Yes they were great great rock and roll band that played all the clubs
in NY.You may know there leader David Johanson who had a career as
a charecter known as Buster Pointdexter .. he did Hot,Hot,Hot.
As the NY Dolls, they dressed in drag and wore make up, but acted
very macho and sang about women...that's why they had a
"Personality Crisis" Only made 2 albums but are legendary and I think
the forefathers of punk..this was 1972 abouts, when they were doing all this.
Loud aggressive and mean.Their guitarist Johnny Thunder was one of the
best straight ahead rock and roll Chuck Berry type guitarists ever.
They are back together again without Thunder who died young.
They should have stayed retired, with legendary status.
And yes Bob Gruen is a amazing photographer..My brother-n-law is a photographer
and I saw Gruen's book of photo's at his home. One day I will get that book myself.
