Me too.

I did not drink red wine until I had my MI but since then I have developed a taste for it - although I still drink a fair bit of beer (probably too much, but I enjoy it!).

Well time for me to go for tonight, take care all of you and sweet dreams.

Ashley
If you have one watch you know what the time is. But if you have two you don't know which one is right.

The more advice you get the more confusing it becomes.

Dr Nightfly has just prescribed you: 1 glass of red wine (more toward
the dry side) once a night after dinner for benefits to the heart's
vascular system.

But no more than 1 or it's no longer medicinal.......

Thank you Doctor Nightfly, absolootly just the one litre glass of wine per night (although I'll give it a skip Monday to Thursday as too much isn't good for me )

Harvey's Brewery Tour - 10-14-2008, 07:09 AM

I am recovering this morning from my tour of the Harvey's brewery.

From what I can remember it was extremely good.
The tour guide was excellent very informative and funny but as you all can probably guess the best bit was the last stop in the tasting room.

Six barrels of assorted beer for about 50 of us!

They had provided some of their Bonfire Boy beer, as you can no doubt work out this is a brew they only produce at this time of the year, a dark strong ale of 5.8%. I also sampled a little of the Christmas Ale which is a barley wine of 8.2% strength.

But the most interesting was the Imperial Stout which according to our guide is the same as the, no longer available, Courage Imperial Russian Stout. It appears Harveys managed to get hold of the recipe when Courage stopped production and now produce this stout in very small quantities or rare occasions.

All in all a very good tour and if any of you get the opportunity to do it I thoroughly recommend it.

Hi Ashley, thanks for this - it really does sound like an excellent session with an amazing selection of ales.

Mental note, do to Lewes, go to Lewes, go to Lewes

Indeed it was Hirs and there were no restrictions on the tasting, very much help yourself.

The beers on offer were:
Sussex Best Bitter
Sussex Old Ale
Armada Ale
Hadlow Bitter
Bonfire Boy
Sussex Mild

I tried a sample of them all, but stuck to the Best in the main.

Question Can wine be aged in minutes - 10-15-2008, 12:00 AM

Not really beer, but I saw this article (Ultrasound machine turns cheap plonk into fine wine in 30 minutes, says inventor - Telegraph) while I was surfing the web today and it interested me enough to go out and get a moderately cheap bottle of Rioja to see if it works. Being a chemist, we have several ultrasonic baths floating around the lab, so I will be running some blind tests with the guy I work with (who is a bit of a wine buff) on Friday to see if it works. My bet is it won't, but I hope I am proved wrong ,
Cheers,
Dave

I am starting to worry that I'll gain the 20 pounds I lost in the past few week within the first week in London, what with all the drinking I'll be expected to do!

My alcohol tolerance is completely gone, because I can literally count on the fingers of one hand the number of times that I had drinks this year since I had been ill. As opposed to my former alcohol tolerance where I could probably match the world's finest brits and irishmen whom I worked with here in NY, now I probably will be folding after one beer
