Hirs Ute

You should try a real beer like; Theakstons Old Peculier or Adnams Broadside or even Jenning's Snecklifter Strong.

Dear Grungefuttock whilst Theakstone (now owned by Scottish & Newcastle) is a Yorkshire beer (well sort of owing to it's lineage ) Jennings is from Cumbria (touch sweet for me), Adnams Broadside 6.3 (from Suffolk) is what done for me this after' that's why I make no apology for any of the ludicrous rubbish I might be torping at the mooment . If you want real beer I suggest you pour a large glass of Black Sheep, settle down, and listen to some cool tunes

Deraest Vik, please take a look at the following concerning one of England's finest ales: Timothy Taylor Brewery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Concerning 'the black stuff' do you mean Guinness, Murphys or Beamish?
Perhaps if you're not directly referring to Irish stout you may mean Milk stout, Oyster stout, Oatmeal stout, Chocolate stout or indeed Coffee stout. Possibly, even, given your lineage you might be considering Baltic Stout.

As a point of useless interest the generic term or 'Porter' for a dark ale is claimed to be attributed to the fortification of porters at London markets.

Until the Nation Nannies came to the fore Stout was recommended to be drunk by pregnant women to fortify themselves, supposedly, due the extra iron in the drink

Hi Hirs Ute,
If you are now from around these parts you should be drinking the local stuff; Moondance, Alton's Pride or Comfortably Numb (all Triple fff Beers). I am indulging in a good old pint of TEA (Hogs Back) at the moment (very nice). For a meet up I would suggest the Alton beer festival (16th February).
Cheers,
Dave C

Hirs, after reading this post, I definitely need a drink. You pick one out for me! Actually, let me get one of each.

Hi Dave, I went to a party in Farnham back in October where there was a few barrels of TEA, damn fine. Not only was the beer excellent but it was also the night England beat France in the Rugby AND the party's cover band was awesome

Concerning beer festivals I used to, regularly, go the Farnham beer festival in the late 70's / early 80's, but it got too popular with tickets becoming as rare as rocking horse sh!t

Concerning local stiff I drank my first Brakspeare's (illegally) in the 60's when I was about 9 and have had a taste for it ever since
