Bo Diddley was very vocal about record companies. He wasn't shy about letting people know that he got no royalties at all from those wonderful record companies that are so dedicated to protecting the rights of artists Like so many Blues artists of the time he was ripped off big time.

He also produced a large family of children and grand children, which he has cited as his reason for touring for as long as he has. he was receiving nothing from the record company and the only way to feed his family was to tour.

A brilliant individual that gave us all so much - he will be missed.

Regards,

Regards,
Thanks for that, Rebel Rebel.

That is very sad to hear, that an important and influential musical figure of our times was treated so badly by his record company.
You hear so many stories of artists being ripped off by their agents, promoters or record companies, it seems to be a fact of life in the music business.
It seems to attract a lot of unscrupulous individuals who are only in it for their own ends.

In the movie "Hail Hail Rock and Roll" the story of Chuck Berry,
Bo Diddley,Little Richard and Chuck Berry sit around talking about how
they were ripped of by the record labels of their music..
A real shame and crime to do such a thing, to those that
gave so much to modern culture.

Same type of thing is going on with Fats Domino (getting ripped off by music industry) --he turned 80 this year. He's a legend who didn't make it out of katrina, in fact they thought he was dead and wrote "RIP Fats" outside on his damaged house. He was rescued by the Coast guard but has been in failing health ever since. They are trying to help him raise money to restore the house.

He was inducted to the R&R hall of fame in 1986 in the first class to go in. Bo Diddley came in 1987. He toured with Bo Diddley in the late 50's.
