Opinions please... Especially you, Europeans - can't you just tell an American 5 miles away when they trundle about with their swiss-cheese-holed Fugly crocs? Or are you as crazy about these kaloshes that are the "middle finger to fashion", as the article says, as majority of my style-unconscious countrymen?

I've been in the wholesale footwear industry for 14 years so take my opinion a little more than others. Crocs are a great for about 3 weeks, but the are absolutely HORRIBLE for your feet. When I see nurses and people who stand for long periods of time wearing them, I cringe. I'm American, and I've found that the people who buy these are typically lazy and cheap. I give major props to the company and the reps who sell them (many of them I know) for an ingenious idea and marketing. They are developing higher priced crocs with Birkenstock like cork footbeds and geared more toward the pedorthic market and those will be big, but not to the same crowd you see wearing them now.
I also cringe every time I see a young child who's foot is still developing wearing these things too. They are really bad for them because they do not have a defined arch to help a child's foot properly develop. But, try telling that to the parents. They like them because they are cheap, and their kids can tear them up and they not worry about having spent $$$ on Nike/Puma/Diesel/Sperry or any other style.
Would I wear them, HELL NO! Feel free to ask me anything else about them or any other shoe brand.
