And your stage name? Funny Honey Bunny
But you are worth a googol of them (at least!), so that brings up your country's population count uncannily close to

My comment was tongue in cheek (though was that genuine about laughing at my post or sarcasm, Vik?!)

There are definitely women in entertainment I find funny, and women I know who do improvised comedy, but as stand ups?

Solaris - I think women like men who make them laugh on a social level, but not sure about stand ups? I mean, is the sole purpose of comedy to make people want to sleep with you?

I mentioned Bill Bailey but forgot to mention Dylan Moran (both appear in the hysterical Black Books). His stand up is amazing too, incredibly random.

I wouldn't say horrible footballer, since I probably would have made it to the national team of Liechtenstein (if I had had such a pass port), when I was between the ages of 20 through to 30

The subject of my inquiry was why there are so few world wide known female comedians, while there are so many men, who qualify.

My point was that men, who were either not strong enough, not fast enough, not good enough hunters, not clever enough or not rich enough, had to find another way to get to pass on their gene pools.

They could then compensate for not being all the above mentioned by being extrovert funny. A skill that has then been passed on from generation to generation.

I might be totally wrong suggesting the above - but I still haven't heard anyone presenting us with a better explanation to why funny women aren't as world wide well known as their male counterparts

Now, if only we could find out what women compensate with for not being beautiful, smart, or rich, and you will have the explanation for your dillemma, right? Any ideas?

I can think of a couple of female comedians but their humour relies on being fat and other female issues, rather than male comedians who have a varied routine. Most female comedians I know of just end up on sketch and news quiz shows. I understand your point about it being a display of male sexuality but you get female performers in other fields. I suppose storytelling, singing etc has more often than not been a traditionally male-dominated world which women are still working towards.
Five women who I think are very funny:

1) Gilda Radner
2) Victoria Jackson
3) Amy Pohler
4) Rachel Dratch

and the funniest, gooffiest, most hilarious -- Molly Shannon. They all rose up thru the ranks at SNL.

I can usually watch the first 5 minutes to SNL, right up to the "Live from New York it's Saturday Night" phrase. The rest is crap
