Hurricane Ike - 09-12-2008, 02:49 AM

Hey everyone,

As hurricane Ike comes closer and closer to me, I will try to blog about the experience as it happens and as long as I have power (which probably won't be long).

I'm expecting at my house sustained winds of 100+ mph and at least 10" of rain. Should make for a fun ride. We are prepared and ready to go when this starts tomorrow. Speak to you all soon!

if you want the most accurate assessments of the hurricane, go to these sites. Cnn/Fox/Weather Channel do not give the same perspective.

Houston news, entertainment, search and shopping | chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Houston News, Houston, Texas News, Weather, and Sports - KPRC Local 2 Click2Houston

Now I have a beef with Anderson Cooper and CNN. Where the heck are they? No broadcasting from here? Ike makes Katrina look like a wimpy baby in comparison. Guess we are not as big a story as New Orleans.

Still nothing, bright and sunny out right now. That is supposed to change by noon. Luckily I am 120 miles inland. The storm surge could reach as high as 20 feet completely submerging all homes and a lot of business along the coast specifically Galveston Island which is home to about 80k in population and then it's coming for the 4th largest city in the US with about 6 million in the greater Houston and surrounding areas. I live in one of the surrounding areas

Time to break out the beer!!

I will be thinking of you all in Texas. Two houses separate us from the ocean here in Hilton Head and I remember the recent concern our community had when Hannah came through and luckily missed us. I hope everyone is thinking safety first. Possessions can be replaced but human life can not.

Update...I do not feel so bad now that CNN actually showed up and that douchebag (I mean phenomenal journalist) Anderson Cooper showed up. I feel safe now.

Seriously. This hurricane will be much worse as far as storm surge and destruction is concerned than Katrina was. There are always some morons who stay behind on the Island. They were all told today that if they still choose to stay to please have identification on them in 2 places so they can be identified. That serious enough for you?

hey everyone,

Still without power here in Houston but felt compelled to post quickly. I am leaving to go out of town and will post more about the storm tonight or tomorrow.
