Phelps is no doubt awesome in his achievments.

Also makes the feats of Mark Spitz stand out as it took 36 years to break his records...and he did it with a moustache and a regular swim suit you could buy in most dept. stores.

Well, suits no doubt have a lot to do with the world records dropping like like flies in this olympics. But that's ok. Expected. Just look at F1. The better the car, the better the drive.

Records do seem to be tumbling this Olympics.

Team GB are currently third in the medal table behind only the US and Chinese teams.

Who would ever have predicted that!

I think his arms have a lot to do with it. If they were any longer his knuckles would be dragging along the ground.

Also the best sportsmen are obsesive about training (Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher etc...), did you see how many callories he has to eat to fuel his 6 hour a day training regime

I think, when the dust settles after the track and field events, that GB will fall back down the table again. Although, take nothing away from them as they have surpassed most people’s expectations

That's ok. He's still pretty cool even with ape-like arms Unavoidable too - every TV station, every paper, every magazine, every news site

I agree that GB will probably finish lower in the medals table than their current lofty position.
But credit to the team for doing so well so far, and achieving their most golds for quite a few Olympics

Agreed. I am adding up the medals from US, England, Russia and all the former Soviet republics and counting them as my own

Sorry to be pedantic, Vik, but the team is GREAT BRITAIN actually, not just England!!
Don't forget, one of the gold medallists was Welsh (Nicole Cooke)

I'm sorry!! Of course!!

I count all US, GB, and USSR medals as my own

..... Suddenly I am getting flashbacks to a conversation that we had way before you even joined the forum about USSR. Where's Nightfly when you need him?
