Movie Review - Green Street Hooligans - 06-09-2008, 03:34 AM

I just saw a movie from 2005 called Green Street Hooligans that is really really good. If you have not seen it, watch it. It has Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) and a bunch of unknown to me at least, actors from the UK/EU. This movie is absolutely phenomenal. Not sure how realistic it is, maybe the UK forum residents can shed some light on that.

Everytime I see the word "hooligan" I can't but help think of Bill Hick's great bit about English Hooligans

Ignore the video, it's just filler:

I watched this film yesterday and I am on the same opinion. This is really good film for the teenagers life which grow up on the street. And this is non American film

As someone born a mile from Green Street and a lifelong West Ham fan it is basically a film about football violence which occured a lot in late 60's and 70's, at many football grounds. I have not seen the film, but like most films some parts are probably overplayed for the viewers. It was said that some groups went for the fight and not the match.
The entrance to the West Ham football club is in Green Street even now, but the area has changed a great lot over the years and it is basically an Asian area of London now.

I think "Football Factory" was a much better movie on the same subject and even that wasn't very good. GSH just didn't ring that true to me. I've been told that Alan Clarke's "the Firm" is probably the best of the films on the Hoolie experience, though I've not yet seen it myself. I'll probably get the Clarke box set that's available (also contains "Scum", "Made in Britain" and one other).
