Mp3 Sound Regulator? - 09-17-2008, 12:25 PM

Just wondering what everyone uses to level out the sound on there MP3 collection, as the sound can vary drastically depending on the source, and leave you scrambling for the volume dial.

I have tried "MP3 Gain" but it doesn't seem to be that fond of the "Vista" operating system.

Hi Bobwhite

I personally don't use a replay gain software - but this particular one ought to look promising seen from your point of view: Download iVolume 3.1.2.1417 Free Trial - This software will see that all your songs play at the same volume level - Softpedia

Solaris;

I believe this program is just for the iTunes crowd. But do wonder if it will work without using iTunes?
I use MediaMonkey and know you can level an individual track, but can't figure out if you can do the whole library at one time or not.

Thanks - Mark

...This jukebox-like player is the perfect solution for you if you throw a party and care to play your tunes from the PC. The “party” module helps set a password for your player just to make sure and protects your library and playlist from being modified.

The “auto-dj” module also helps you by automatically playing tunes when your manually selected tracks run out so you can sit back and relax without worrying that the music will eventually stop.

You don’t have to worry about the fact that some audio files have different volume levels because the MediaMonkey uses Replay Gain and MP3 Gain technology which will do the volume adjusting for you. It’s not a secret that a 10 band equalizer is available and some dsp plug ins as well....

Digital Music FAQ: MP3-OGG-WMA Audio

...What is Volume Levelling?

When tracks are digitally encoded from different sources and using different encoders or encoder settings, they will invariably play back at different volumes on different players and devices. Several technologies have evolved to deal with this problem, and it's useful to understand them so that you use the approach that best meets your needs:

1. Replay Gain

This is the most standardized approach to volume leveling, providing a comprehensive approach for all audio formats without impacting audio fidelity. Replay Gain implementations use a two phase approach: first track volumes are analyzed and the resulting co-efficient is saved to the track's tag. Then, during playback, this tag is read and the player adjusts the volume up or down accordingly. This is an excellent approach for PC-based players, but is limited because many portable devices do not support Replay Gain tags, and thus when tracks are synchronized to a device, the volume will vary.

MediaMonkey supports Replay Gain analysis and playback (via 'Analyze Volume' and 'Level Playback Volume')...
