Scotland also - were ' robbed '.
The tournament is already a sadder, emptier thing without their involvement !

P.S. Ronaldo hardly ever ' performs for Portugal as he does for.. ' - that other team lots of us hate to mention......
In fact - he often becomes anonymous during ' big games '.
Ya, hence the words "if" and "might" I agree England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are good teams and based on players, deserve to be there.

But, to sound cliche, at the end of the day England should have qualified despite their manager. They had plenty of opportunities but screwed it up again and again. It shouldn't have even been a close 1 point to qualification. To me that indicates how badly they failed rather than how close they were.

Fair enough Mellifluous - Yes - the players should have been good enough to seal qualification - in spite of their useless manager....
Apparently - that failure's cost us 40 Million GBP.......
Not to mention the huge and very tangible disappointment of not actually being there - among some noticeably inferior teams and players !
Apparently - quite a few England supporters are refusing to watch this tournament because of our non-participation !

Well - after the first few matches - Germany seem to have bolstered their ' favourite's ' status, and Portugal also looked impressive - and the Dutch - after last night's demolition of Italy 3 - 0 !!
Can't ever remember the Italians looking so inept - and so defensively weak.
France were again - very disappointing against Roumania - showed little sense of urgency or creativity.
Today - my adopted home team Spain take to the stage.
Like England - perennial under - achievers in competitions like this....
Should be interesting - but I have a feeling they could do really well this time - they have a squad of very good players.

On another related subject - I've been watching all of the games on high definition TV, using the BBC HD free service via a new Sky HD box and huge satellite dish here.
And - it's quite awesome !
Every detail and the sheer clarity of the picture adds a huge sense of realism to proceedings.
Although everything looks better in HD - I can't help feeling that live sport is really what it was made for !
Can I ask how developed high definition services are in other countries ?

Just quickly checking the forum at half time in the game.
Russia are very unlucky not to be ahead, they are playing well.
Going back to the game now...
