Selling my cd collection - Help? - 05-19-2008, 10:32 PM

Hi everyone...

I've decided to sell a lot of my cd collection and am looking for what is the best place in the US to unload it. I already sell on Amazon and may try there, but want something a bit quicker and less costly for postal fees. Ebay is another option, but again too many fees. Secondspin.com are rip-off artists, so what other options do I have?

I am also willing to make a list of everything I have that I am selling and take fair offers.

I use Amazon to sell my cd's even with the fee's its fast and convienent.
For rare stuff I use eBay to get higher pricing on bidding.

Making a list and getting a customer database is a lot of work, but may be worth it to you.

If you are implying using this site to sell stuff, the answer is no.

If you have a separate site with a link we might consider it.

But ask first....

I have about 500ish so far that I know I am selling. I hate to part with these, but I really don't feel like I need them anymore since I have them on hard drives and cdr's. I have some rare stuff listed on Amazon so far, but with this economy I don't think I am going to be selling this stuff fast.

I have been selling not briskly, but slow and steady.
As you know it depends what the people are looking for after awhile
you get a handle on the market and you start selling more.
Fair prices always helps.

Yeah, ALL my discs are like new as I am meticulous about my cd's and dvd's and have been on the cd's since 1987. So I have trouble listing discs at the lowest price possible, and since most of my stuff is not junk, or at least not in my eyes (or over bought pop albums like Hootie and The Blowfish, N Sync etc.), I have some justification in listing a bit higher. That said, I also do not want to get in a bidding war with someone who is lowering the price to always be lowest when the quality of the cd is GOOD, versus my Like New, and the lower price always gets noticed first. Oh the dilemma.

I always use e-bay, the advantage being you can always make an extra 50 pence on the postage. It will be time consuming with that many CDs, just depends if you like doing that sort of thing?? You could always start by listing everything in a single sale and starting the bidding price at what you would be prepared to accept (avoid reserve prices as they just annoy people if they do not know what the reserve price is). Unlikely to make as much money this way, but it would be a hell of a lot easier,
Cheers,
Dave C

I sell "Like New" and I think that many collectors do go for the best price
at that level first, as opposed to the cheapest "Good" with stickers and scratches. The used market is very savvy and will check prices daily to look for "their" price.I'm not saying to give them away but to be fair as what You see other vendors selling similar items for.
Example I just sold John Coltrane live in Europe 3cd box. I sold it for $22
"like new"..Others had it for 28$ but their listings are months old..I bought mine for $16 made a profit and I sold it right away ( 9 days)
On Ebay I used to buy groups of bundled used Cds of the same genre like Jazz/BeBop 15 cds.
Much like Dave has said.

I may go this route (selling in lots of bands). Most of mine is progressive metal, hard rock, etc. (Pink Floyd, Rush, Metallica, Dream Theater, etc.) I just sat down and said do I really need 3 copies of every Rush album? I may get some decent dough for my Harvest Label Pink Floyd discs

You're right about Floyd discs I have sold original release cds quicker
than the new remastered ones.
