Streisand Song for a Memorial/Funeral - 07-22-2008, 09:17 PM

Hi everyone,

I know morbid subject, my apologies. I do not know Barbara Streisand's music at all and need help with a song for a Memorial for my mother. We were told by doctors yesterday that my mom's kidney's were failing rapidly as is 2 valves of her heart. She had a stroke 2 years ago and things have been getting worse everyday. Basically, my mom has only a few weeks to live and I want to play her music while she is alive and also want that one special song by Streisand to play for her at her memorial. Streisand is her favorite singer of all time. The only song I know is "Somewhere" Other people she likes are Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, and there are a few others but can't think of them at the moment. Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I am at a loss for words which is rare for me.

MM

Hi Marc,
Very sorry to hear about your mother, my best wishes are with you & your family.
I would not normally recommend the itunes store, but if you are looking for Barbara Streisand's music you will find no better store for it. My mom is a fan and I know that her favourite is her first album; 'The Barbra Streisand Album'. Another great live album by her is 'The Broadway Album'; many of her classic show type hits are on this one. Both are available from itunes, but I'm am sure that someone more in the know will be able to direct you to an alternative download site if you do not want to use itunes.

EDIT. Just checked out millisong.com & they have got a pretty good selection. These two are definitely worth getting (the first is a collection of two of her best albums):-

Marc, sorry to hear of your mother's failing health. I have dealt with the same stuff with my father for the past 4 months. We just try to make them happy while we still can, you know.

I really recommend the soundtrack to "A Star is Born", and specifically the song "Evergreen" which is far and away my Steisand favorite. The song "Angel" by Hendrix is pretty great too, especially for the situation.

Peace, brother...

Marc,

I'm so sorry to her about your mother. I'm glad you are trying hard to make her memorial something special. I'm not a Streisand fan, but others here will help you with that. I'm glad your mother also liked Hendrix and The Stones. That is the sign of a "cool" mother.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Marc,

So terribly saddened to hear the news about your mother.
I hope the time she has remaining can be happy for her, and I hope you find a fitting memorial.
My best wishes to you and all your family at this difficult time.
