Question No Problem for me.............. - 07-04-2012, 10:14 AM

i am glad to say that pastor39 is back and jumped in by PM on this, so i have a feeling this was a one-off
and might be sorted out soon. he knows what we are talking about.

the mssgs started with: '' ... Megaboon.com - list of Megaboon updates for 01 Jul 2012 ... ''.

then follows page after page after page of CDs, incl direct download links.

at the end it gets funny: '' ... You’ve received this message because you’ve registered or accepted
our invitation to receive email from Megaboon.com, or you’ve made a purchase from Megaboon.com ... ''

well, we have most certainly not ''accepted our invitation to receive email from Megaboon.com'',
but the entire mssg anyhow includes anybody who ever was in touch with megaboon. you know us, so
you get our mail ... take it of leave it (how?).

sorry, but very bad in my opinion.

Just a thought Henry,

Have you gone into My Account and unticked the box for receiving emails?
I do not receive any email from Megaboon, and never have, apart from the very good bonus offers, but other than that, nothing.

Regards
Chris.

chris, this is not my 'very' own account, but one i sold and supervise. and such tick-option
i did not even know about, will check it out. ticked or not, there has never been any such
long newsletter-mssg before, so its something new.

if ticking it and it also removes service-, update- and special offer mssgs, no point. the
monthly missile is something different.

my problem, and issue, is not the mail they send, even if unsolicited. but once this starts,
your email is on a database, very soon, which cannot be the purpose of the game. and those
databases grow and spread and grow and spread. they themselves can NOT avoid this.

and here comes the worst part. just think about it and let it sink in:

the newsletter and the associated database contains your login data, account name AND
password. if you click, in that email (!), any of the ''DOWLOAD this album'' buttons, you
are, without any logging-in or password request, in your account ready at the already filled
shopping cart.

sorry, but i really cannot play this down.

greets - henry

Henry,

If it is that much of a problem why not get a mickey mouse email account and then change your details on the account. No more problems?

Your online activities sound a bit complicated for me!

Regards
Chris.

yes chris, absolutely right, if we would have know before (long before), a mickey mouse
account would have been an option.

how many of all of us here do use such a mickey mouse mail account? and how
many use their real account, maybe one they use less regularily, but still?

anyhow, their newsletter would go out with full log-in details incl password of your (paid
for - not mickey mouse money) music account.

you dont think that is an issue? asides from legal issues in many countries?

>> Your online activities sound a bit complicated for me!

in what sense, pls?

Smile What are you listening to ? - 07-04-2012, 03:21 PM

Listen my friend I don't mind the "spam" from megaboon I actually look at it, but you are absolutely right to expect privacy but we rarely get it on the net these days.Being politically active,I get spammed all the time....lol...never sign a petition they say they will not use the information BS...I just delete them.

But lets not get in an argument over this. This is not the first or only newsletter I get from a site now or in the past nor will it be in the future.
If you do not trust megagoon please let them know. They are a trusted site to this site and we can link to them anytime as long as it pertains to Music choices.

Take care all and What have you been listening too!
thats' what we were talking about here...

Henry,

I was thinking along the lines of :-

"chris, this is not my 'very' own account, but one i sold and supervise"

My main emails are with my ISP, but I have at least 7/8 Hotmail email address, old and new, some dot com, some dot.co.uk, I assumed everybody did?

Regards

got it, chris. what i meant was that very often, when people used to ask me for music,
i recommended and 'sold' (no $$$) such accounts to them, usually to people who didnt
know how to do it. and in case of problems, i had/have full access to those accounts - and
problems there were enough, as we all know.

dont do that anymore: it simply became to bothersome and expensive. last case was
millisong, where is had to 'refund' some money lost - after the lady herself was the
one who for some reason had insisted in millisong.

thats also why i am so worried about what i consider a bad data-leak with megaboon:
guess who will be blamed if anything happens. full access to the acount might not mean
credit card data, but payment and sales statistics are also valuable - to some. and even
having a mickey-mouse addrs will not help you then.

ok, back to music ...

greets - henry

PS: maybe i am overcautious (and have reasons to be), or even overreacting - so would
like to invite other peoples opinion on this - beat me if need be.
