Trip-Hop - 12-27-2009, 05:08 PM

Lately I've been in to downtempo trip-hop with Stephanie Schneiderman, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Zero 7 being my most recent acquisitions. Got them mostly through MP3 Sales.

I'm just enjoying the subtle electronica music mixed with the dreamy, laid back, soothing gentle sounds. Nice relaxing music in my books.

Good to see you Nightfly and best of the holiday season to you. Hope Santa was good to you -- you deserve it.

Hey Martinman,
Good to see you my friend and may the holidays be special and warm for you.

I asked for no presents this years I spent all my Xmas money on charities
and the homeless. In my country a lot of people are in need.I don't have much, but more then many unfortunates. We must raise them up,for us all to be successful. So I was had a very, very happy holiday.Nothing makes you feel better. And gave away new toys to a children's hospital, that was great as well.

But I'm listening to Shine On Live(2009) -Pink Floyd especially
"On The Turning Away" beautiful song(and a most excellent guitar solo).
get the lyrics to the song everyone and tell me what you think ?

Alice Russell - 12-31-2009, 06:48 AM

A very happy and peaceful new year to everyone. Your generoisty makes me feel very humble Nightfly.

I've just discovered Alice Russell, a British-born soul singer who in my opinion makes Amy Whitehouse and Duffy seem like rank amateurs. Her latest album "Pot Of Gold" is available on mp3sale and Fiesta. I'm astonished that she isn't a housedhold name.

I found her by chance on a great 3 CD compilation album "Tru Thoughts 10th Anniversary" (available on mp3sale) and recommended on the excellent BBC music site.

I've also been enjoying "The Greatest Show on Earth" by 17 Hippies, a live album by a Gereman band with anything between 30-50 members who appear to play just about every instrument on the planet and in between the musical mayhem create some beautiful melodies. A joyous way to end the year.

Yes - 12-31-2009, 01:20 PM

"In A Word" 5CD boxset from YES, a super Xmas present.

Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale is the most played song in public places in the last 75 years, according to a chart compiled for BBC Radio 2. (April 2009)

Hi Nightfly

Thank you for your well wishes -- as you know they are sincerely appreciated. You're a great inspiration in remembering how lucky we all are. My wife and I regularly contribute to not-for-profits, and not just with money donations for those less fortunate.

Peace to you and your family for your compassion for others.

Hi Dodge 45

I checked out both your artists and they are definitely good. I think the reason Alice isn't a household name is likely because she's not part of the mass marketing machine that dictates to us who is hot and whose music we should buy. They play for the love of making music whether they're big or not. I rarely buy Top 40 stuff and enjoying finding these gems like you did.

They are a folk-inspired pop/rock that combines pastoral psychedelia with electronic elements, ailing from East London. I was given them as a present and really enjoy them. They're not on the sites I use but you can get more info and samples from allmusic. I have their albums Circle and Miracle Kickler.

Also, I have Bill Callahan and the two of his three albums that are on mp3sales. I hate trying to categorize them but probably alternative indie, lo-fi, alternative rock.

As usual I am also with you on this one Nightfly.
I pay a monthly Direct Debit to a Cancer Charity in the UK.
At Xmas I do a one off payment, this year I gave £28 (worth £35 with tax) to The Salvation Army, for the homeless etc.
Like you, I also feel better for doing it.

This is why I hate Bono, talks about poverty in Africa then moves abroad for tax purposes, two faced so and so.

Chris my friend Charity and Taxes are two different issues.I can take or leave
Bono myself.but sometimes you don't feel like paying taxes when it all goes for wars and people are sleeping in the streets.I just wish that they used our money more wisely, look at the economic mess our country US is in.So Bono might have his reasons, but I Give him his props for his charity work. And I don't mind paying taxes mind you just wish more of it went for care of our citizens. Please lets not start a political discussion here.I broke the rules a little but my real saying is charity is from the heart taxes aren't.

Have a great new year my friend,we may not have the same musical taste
(though we share a great deal ) but we are still very much a like my brother...

Skipping the political stuff... - 01-03-2010, 05:12 PM

Good on ya Chris for the help for the Salvo's, an excellent global organisation.

Today was Buffalo Springfield's first album. I don't often post the stuff that's been around for years but damn they were good.
