Mallu Magalhães is a 15-year-old Brazilian singer from São Paulo, Brazil. Her influences mixed to her great, yet raw, talent are the key elements to her involving folk’a’billy rock. She started composing at the age of 12. When she turned 15 she decided to record a few songs and was then discovered by Jorge Moreira who saw her incredible potential and decided to produce her EP. After her songs were released on the internet, “Tchubaruba” got more than 100,000 plays in a few days in her myspace profile. Her total play count is nearing 500,000. In a matter of weeks she was being interviewed in the most popular talk shows in Brazil and touring around São Paulo.
Her band consists of lead vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Mallu Magalhães, guitarist/keyboards Kadu Abecassis, drummer Jorge Moreira, and bassist Mario.
Her main influences are: Bob Dylan, Beatles, Belle and Sebastian, Jonny Cash, among others.
Fish - Acoustic Sessions....just started listening to this cd and so far I'm impressed. I really don't know much about this guy. From what I gather, he was in Marrillion (another group I'm not very familiar with - they weren't that big in the States). I stumbled across some cds on line and d/l them just to check him out.
I don't know what his regular stuff sounds like, but this acoustic cd reminds me of classic British folk like Martin Carthy or Fairport Convention (with more than a little pop bent to it)

To AO - do check out some Marillion if you get a chance. They are kind of hit and miss with some of their stuff, but they do have some really good releases, "Misplaced childhood" is top-notch as is "Clutching at Straws".

Thanks for the recommendation...I'll check them out

Also their debut album "Script For A Jester's Tear" is a classic, if you like a bit of prog-rock.
Just discovered Sharon Little with her second album "Perfect time for a breakdown" Very nice to listen to. Folk rock with a soulfull edge. Worth checking out
