+1, it's a tough nut to crack.
I would recommend
Brighten The Corners as an intro. It has some great tracks like
Shady Lane,
Date With Ikea, and
Blue Hawaiin but the "pièce de résistance" for me is
Embassy Row. It''s a classic.
Pavement is gone, but the creative driver Steve Malkmus is still a pretty hot shit around the Indie scene these days...
