Exile on Main Street is to Beggar's Banquet

as

White Album is to Sgt. Pepper.

Even with the best, it's always a little bit of a stretch to go with a double album.

I'm probably forgetting something obvious, but is there ANY double album from an artist where each disc stands alone against the best single album from the same artist? (I guess the concept of "album" is becoming less meaningful, but I'm talking about, say, 10 tracks released at once vs. 20 tracks released at once).

Thanks for your post....

I can not agree with your analogy.

The White Album is more of the Beatles doing solo tracks for a Beatles album
And Sgt Peppers is a group and classic album

While Exile might be a 2lp album it is one CD only and is a completely different
album with different styles then Beggars, that also is Brian Jones vs Mick
Taylor.I personally listen to Exile more but think that Beggar's Banquet is also
a classic in its own right. There are many classic double albums out there.
A single lp is not necessarily better.

What about Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix and Weld by Neil Young?

I re listened to both a few days ago and try as I might, I still think that Sgt. Pepper's is my fav. album of theirs. Revolver has a lot of excellent tracks on it, but Sgt. Pepper's is flawless and I love the way the album flows . Having said that, both album get a 10 from me and I am not even a big Beatles fan
