>> I think you are being unreasonable here, you can't expect them to listen to every track they get...Do you?
nightfly, did you not read the post? i have no problems with pastor and the BOSS file, his reaction and the solution.
none at all. i agree it was a fluke, and also that it was as good as impossible to listen to all files.
i was actually answering to skyforger, and we were just using the BOSS file as an example how things were done, and how
such files could be detected. pure technical curiousity, as i pointed out, no blame or even complaint on any side. very much
the same as rollys very detailed and interesting post right after.
greetings - henry

Note that this has nothing to do with the bitrate that was selected when the original source was ripped.
It could be 128kbps or 320kbps,that is not the point.
The comparison of the screenshots are to show that the transcodes are NOT gapless, they are NOT tagged original,etc.,where-as an original rip at even 128kbps WILL be gapless, and WILL have the original tagged checked.
I haven't run across many files yet that do have those credentials in the metadata.
.....
rolly, you're a star!
a really useful information, this makes me believe detecting transcodes could be implemented much more easily, in linux batch runs. will try to use linux shell id3 library with some hundreds of files and let you know the statistics.
great finding something that points skyforger to the way implementing
this under linux, rolly. but i do have dBpoweramp, so i will try that too.
but try mp3val too: it did flag all those BOSS files as bad (at end of file),
and that together with the 'old' lame version already makes one listen
to the files one by one. which works fine with a personal setup, but as
mentioned not really in a commercial one checking thousands of files per hour.
We've refunded money yesterday for this album to everyone who have purchased it.
New copy (in about 200VBR) is available, so you can purchase it now.
BTW, i've updated the Boss discography with some 320kbps albums (which were less than 192 before).
The usual excellent service we have come to expect.
