I will also have a listen to the 4th as this is recommended in the 1000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die book.
The recording they recommend is by The Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Herbert von Karajan.
Yes the one by The Berlin and HVK should do it,very nice.

Leonard Bernstein also did a very nice 4th..His whole Mahler
symphony cycle was very nice.

and my personal favorite is George Szell with The Cleaveland Orch
in The Great Performance series on Columbia.

Thanks Nightfly, all I've got to do now is find it.

Nothing so far.

Here's a tip, when looking up Classical if you don't get a hit
searching on the Composers name type in a conductor or
orchestra name and go down those results to see if they
have done any works by your composer.

They don't always index classical music properly.

Thumbs up The FIFTH is IT - 12-01-2008, 09:43 PM

Mahler's 5th Symphony is truly awesome. My favourite version is the Chicago Symphony under Sir George Solti - played LOUD

Cheers,

Squash

Hello Squash,

The 5th does rock! That is a great recording!
I also listen to the old Bruno Walter version.

And have grown fond of Bernsteins's

The only result I have found for the 4th by The Berlin Philharmonic and HVK is a torrent, which appears to be dead.

I will keep looking. Sparks has the 4th by an alternative orchestra/conductor. so it might have to come to that.

Sure somtimes we settle, but if you really like the music....

You just might treat your self to a used CD on Amazon for about $6-8
for the one you really want.

Yes I even resorted to that, but no sign of it on Amazon UK.

I Googled for the piece and as I said the only definite link was the torrent, which appears to have no seeds.

I will keep looking for a while longer if not I will look for one of the alternatives, or I might go to London and check out the record shops and actually buy a CD.

It's much better to upload the image with your post.

And I guess for a Russian site, it should really be a red squirrel

I am sorry about that; I will not do that any more.

Could you please tell me what do you mean with uploading the picture? The only button which appears is insert image and if I click on it the window enter URL appears.

Oh wait a minute... Isn't it the square My Photos and then Quick upload. So in that case I just have to save a picture that I had found first I guess
