Personal experiences with MP3 sale -
07-01-2007, 06:48 PM
Well, overall I like it a LOT.
Not least because my personal taste runs to lots of electronic and ambient music - and these are often one track to an album - so 70 minutes for 15c is pretty good value!
The depth and variety of the catalogue is excellent, and payment was simple and immediate. They have albums by musicians I am a fan of that I have never heard of!
I wonder how they send the VAT tax man his cut?!?!
It's not so string on browsing as other sites I have used, though the similar artists section is better than nothing.
The biggest pain I have is with the downloading. It flat does not work with down-them-all under firefiox, and firefox downloading as flakey in general. This forced me into the *!"$ I.E. Even here I still had some problems, but I did get there eventually.
There is a list provided of URL's to feed into a download manager, but I could not find one that worked with it. Can anyone recommend something that works well?
One great idea they have is to provide an entire album as a zip, but this only works about 1 time in 10 - the rest of the time I just get error 503.
Oh, and a minor irritation, the file names don't include the band name which I find a bit irritating.
Otherwise though I find it pretty good, mainly for price and content, and it is my first stop for music these days.

Hi Fat Freddy
mp3sale is my second option, after the almighty allofmp3/sparks/MM.
About a download manager, I'm using Free Download Manager:
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
and it works fine with the mp3sale's list. Just download the list as a text file and then import it with the download manager.

I've never had this error with the zip file, but sometimes, if I begin to download immediately after order the files, the downloaded zip file is uncompleted. So I never use this option.

You can use an IDTag renamer and modify the filename using the own IDTag file.

What browser does free download manager work with?
Nope, the zip issues are not because I have just ordered... Often when it does finally work the file name is something like blah.zip(3) - I suspect that my end is timing out before the file is ready.
Having said that it's working well this morning, so maybe it's partly because the site is busy at the weekend?
I started out with allofmp3, but find mp3sale better for electronic and ambient - they have a MUCH more extensive catalog, and like I said at in my first message, at a flat price per track its a real bargain for the really long songs and one track albums!
allofmp3 is much more browsable though.

OK, scratch the Free Download Manager question - I have installed it and see that it is stand alone.
Seems to be working well, and nice and simple to use too!
Thanks,
FF

1. Are you getting error 503 or just a page with "Site is temporary unavailable"? Actualy, when you're clicking on a "download zip" icon, the process of zip archive creation starts online, and only after that you're recieving a download link... So, sometimes it takes a bit more time than expected. So, if you're recieving some error message - just go back to that page (My Music) - and click again on "download zip" icon. The archive should be created already, so you'll recieve download link in a few seconds, without this timeout...
2. You can set the desired filenames for the files, that you're downloading in "Profile" section of our site (at the end of profile page).
(including artist name / album name / year / song name / track number)

Thanks for the fast response, I appreciate it!
1. I get both - with a download manage I get the error number, with the direct click it waits a bit and then says the site is unavailable.
I seem to get it eventually if I try several times, but as I said the file generally has a number at the end. This makes me think that it is not waiting long enough for the zip file to be ready.
But I just guess!
2. Profile info.
Wow, now that is SERIOUSLY useful! I will investigate that immediately!
Many thanks,
FF

Hi FF.
Use the quote button - it makes it a lot easier to see, which post you're responding to (this is of course more of an issue, when there are one more posts in between your post and the one you're replying to)

As someone that uses mp3sale.
I always use GetRight download manager, and I always download the complete album in one Zip file, yet my speed is never that good, probably because it stops and starts downloading every 30-60 seconds, EVERYTIME I download the one Zip file, after a few seconds it restarts again?
Still a good site and value for money all the same, probably me as no one else seems to be having any similar problems?

It is a pain!

Um.. Well, have you tried to download albums by GetRight track by track (using filelist for download managers?)
