mp3sugar now being blocked in my area - 01-13-2008, 10:16 PM

Hey all--

I'm a new member to this forum. Just wanted to make a comment that my favorite music download site has been blocked from my accessing it for the last two days. I can access mp3sugar just fine using the Tor proxy servers, but when I try to get there directly, I get nowhere. Just recently Comcast took over the northern Illilnois (USA) area from Insight Communications. Is anyone else having problems accessing mp3sugar?

Thanks for any feedback

Dan

I am a Comcast customer too - in New Jersey. I accessed Mp3sugar just fine today.

Hi drg371950, welcome to the forum

mp3sugar.com is now in the MVPS hosts file Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File . If you're using this yourself, just comment out the entry "127.0.0.1 www.mp3sugar.com" by putting a # (called pound in US I believe) and a space in front of it.

Also try browsing to the site by typing mp3sugar.com (without the www.), and also by typing their IP address (193.39.113.254); if the page loads but with no graphics it may well be caused by your computer's hosts file so it's well worth checking there for one or more entries.

Thanks, Gluteus. I'm happy to be a part of this community. I've tried all those things you mentioned and none work. I'm not using the hosts file you referred to. I also tried just putting in mp3sugar, and that didn't work. Also the IP address doesn't work either. It's not a problem for me since TOR allows me to access the site. I'm just curious as to what's going on. I've never had any problems before accessing the site before on my iBook, and I don't know why mp3sugar would be singled out when other sites appear to be just fine.

I suggest that you write Mp3Sugar assistance and tell them of your
problem.Maybe they will be able to give you some advice on how to
proceed. When you enter them through tor write them and give them
your userid and isp address and let their tech support run some tests for you.

Please be patient it might be a day or two until they respond....

Let us know what happens.

Hi drg371950

I guess the next thing to try is a traceroute; see the first part of this announcement http://www.aom3.org/forum/allofmp3-m...uncements.html . If mp3sugar.com doesn't resolve to the IP address, do a traceroute to the IP address 193.39.113.254 . Let it run to the end; the last readable line should show where the block is.

EDIT: And what Nightfly said

Yeah, it's starting to look like nobody else is, except me at home.

I went to work today, and my work PC has no problem accessing mp3sugar. And we use the same ISP at work as I use at home. Also, I did a traceroute on my iBook at home, and the hops go all the way back to Moscow. Strange...

The only explanation I can think of is that my ISP has put a block on that address for me alone (I assume they might be using the MAC address on my cable modem). Why? Perhaps because I have downloaded so many files from that site? ? I don't know. Why would that be an issue? I'm going to call their tech support line and see if that's the case. I know it's not just my iBook, because my son has a PC laptop that was also unable to access it at my home as well.

Probably nothing to do with it, BUT in my case, I have had problems accessing two or three sites including Soundsbox a while ago. Several weeks ago my NIS 2007 ran out, so I removed it completely and installed NIS 2008, since then no problems, coincidence?

A translation might be in order here, chris: NIS = Norton Internet Security
