Recommendation... - 04-01-2007, 07:58 PM

I can surely recommend this site which I consider to be the best of the rest. Good customer service among others.

Once their credit card processor couldn't cope with the security of my Scandinavian bank, so I contacted them (musicmp3) and within 10 days they had switched their processor. Probably not just because of me but anyway...

Currently I also use: MP3Stor.com, Legalsounds.com and MP3Sale.ru (also known as www.MP3Millionaire.com). All very good.

From time to time I have also used: MP3Search.ru, GoMusic.ru, MP3.ua (all 3 probably have the same owners) and www.mclub.te.net.ua. Never had any trouble.

These I haven't tried but I think they look promising: MP3Sugar.com, MP3Fiesta.com, www.MP3Legal.org, www.MP3Shake.com

There are 20 or so other stores and it seems that another shop comes along almost every week. But none of the above come even close to The King: www.AllOfMP3.com - which oddly enough also is the most expensive, so from my point of view price is a very remote factor for using these stores. When I buy songs in the FLAC-codec, the price is often higher than in the DRM-infected stores.

great post. Ive been looking through those music services, do you know which ones offer multi-format downloading (e.g. flac, ogg etc..)? Its weird how even though that allofmp3 is the most popular cheapest service, it isn't actually the cheapest around.

Im going to do some background reading into those, to find which ones are russian etc..

Hi Admin.

AllOfMP3 is the undisputed king because it's the only one of all the shops where you can choose the exact filformat and bitrate that you want. It's also the most user friendly shop (current payment excluded) Just look at allTunes and the very extensive guidesystem. I tried one of them (just for the fun of it) and I almost couldn't believe my eyes. Impressive.

LegalSounds has a very fast downloader and is by far the cheapest of all the stores (9 cents a song) but on almost all other accounts they are well behind.

By the way: Use this IP-Locator to find out where their servers are placed:

http://www.ipligence.com/geolocation/?lang=en&search

It shows the exact location on a map.

I bought an album from mp3legal.org just now, because it was not on allofmp3. First thing that struck me was the ugly interface. Second thing that struck me was that the album $4.29. That's like 3 times how much it would on allofmp3. Which means I'll only be able to download about 4 albums from them.

Mp3Legal looks a little dodgy to me too so I haven't used it yet - and probably never will.

It does look dodgy so I examined the payment page carefully before I made a payment. The checkout seemed to be processed by Digital River/Swreg which I knew about before, and the album was one I'd wanted for ages and couldn't get hold of anywhere else.

I got 2 other albums and my balance is basically gone, which is a bit crap. One dodgy thing is that I checked the comments tags of the mp3s I downloaded (because until recently, allofmp3 ones were tagged www.allofmp3.com and I don't like that). The comments of Mp3legal mp3s had tags like "dOMiNation", which sounds like an illegal uploading group name to me. So in all likelihood, Mp3legal is just redistributing illegal downloads... ah well, never again.

I agree - 05-09-2007, 11:29 PM

I also have to rank this site as "The Best of the Rest". I was most disappointed about having to specify the save location for each file and the fact that I couldn't choose the way the file was named. I stumbled across a perl script called "aranger" that has solved those problems. Not only will it rename all the files in a directory based upon my preferences but it will also move them and create folders as necessary. Now I download all songs to the same locations and let the script sort them all out. It still doesn't provide all the features alltunes does but it has worked well enough to use until something improves with aom.
