hello

i've just switched to legalsounds as running out of credit on alltunes & was wondering if anyone else has a slow download speed like myself . i'm only getting 13kbps , my internet is fine & running at normal speed & last time i download from mp3sparks/alltunes it raced along - anyone got any tips / having the same experience ?

i'm in the uk btw

I never get below 600 KB/Sec. using the LegalSounds downloader but then again, I live nearer the source (I'm in Scandinavia).

I used legalsounds last year - and once I used most of my credit I quit because the downloader was so incredibly slow - painfully slow!

I had to leave the downloader running overnight

I am also in the UK.

Is it only customers who live "right in the neighbourhood" of their servers that get decent speeds, when using the LegalSounds downloader?

It seems odd that all you British boys and girls get download speeds that differ so much from mine

after following and monitoring this site for about 9 months I actually took the plunge and joined as a "regular" member today, so this is my first post to this forum. As for downloads speeds on LegalSounds, here is what I have discovered after using that site for a year. I use their downloader program, and I get speeds all over the board, although I don't think I've ever been over 150 kbp/s. And sometimes, it is super slow - like around 10kbp/s. I recently downloaded an old George Michael favorite, "Listen Without Prejudice", and the 10 songs took about 15 minutes to download. I am here in Denver, Colorado so I don't know if that makes a huge difference. But my hypothesis is that the download speed is a function of the time of day, or more accurately the load on their servers when I try to download. If I download after 9 pm MST it goes faster, during the day - well 15 minutes for 10 average length 192 bitrate songs is what I had at 12 pm MST today. I can live with it, but I know that Solaris gets these unbelievable 600 kbps times, and I've never gotten close to that. Just wanted to give my thoughts after all the downloads I've done from LegalSounds. I also use mp3fiesta and musicmp3.ru and get fast download times with free downloader manager. Thanks for having this site, it has given me a lot of good info.

Hi Kaeli and welcome to the forum

Have you tried using Free Download Manager with LegalSounds? I have tried it once but "only" got download speeds around 1000 KB/Sec., so I didn't think it was much of an improvement from the download speeds, I get from their own downloader. Maybe you should try that, though - and please report back

Thanks for your input into this matter ..I agree that there is a possibility
that on some sites server contention at certain times can be a problem
if the site is extremely popular.But solaris knows of what he speaks.
I find that using your own downloader is faster than any downloader
out there.. Soundsbox is extremely fast though 1000 to 1200kps.
I don't get that anywhere.I mostly get 600kps like solaris.

Ok, I did a little research with LegalSounds re: the download speeds. Here is what I have come up with, and I have tried this several times and it has produced consistent results. The load or contention on LS servers has a profound effect on the performance of downloads. During the day in the US, it is very slow (5-15 kbps download speed) and the site seems sluggish on searches, loading of pages, etc. When compared to mp3fiesta or
musicmp3.ru, at the same time of day, there is a huge difference. The latter two are fast on my pc/connection, as is millisongs. At night (after 8 pm MST), LegalSounds does much better. Download speed and site navigation is fairly fast. This can probably be attributed to the decreased usage from the Euro / Russian community, as it is middle of the night there and people are doing other things besides downloading music

Also, using Free Download Mngr has no effect on speed. It runs the same as the LS built-in downloader. So there you have it, if anyone here in the US can concur with my findings, please do. (Maybe this is why LS has offered the lowest price per song for all this time, without investing in beefing up their hardware).

i've not tried various times of the day but i'll try early morning in the uk which should be night for the US & see if it makes any difference - i usually log on about 7 - 9 pm uk time so i guess this is anywhere between miday onwards for US .

its worth a try though !
