iTunes - 07-24-2008, 02:34 AM

Frunze,

Scroll down for my instructions on how to move your iTunes library.

Briefly, what you are doing is specifying a new top folder and then saying consolidate library at that new location. It will probably take some time to do the whole thing. Be patient.

1) Go to Preferences -> Advanced
2) Specify the new root location of your music (e.g. FrunzesTINYHardDrive:myMusic)
(3) Make sure "Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library" ticked.)
4) Then, Advanced -> Consolidate library

And iTunes will move everything to your new hard drive with playcounts, dates, etc preserved. Don't do it any other way - else you'll end up with a major headache, like I did.

Good luck.
So i am doing it now - after it's consolidated, it's ok to remove the music from my hard drive, right?? Cause it's already backed up on the removable drive, right?

I guess Make sure all is working fine before you do.

FYI, when your external drive is not accessible (i.e. unplugged) the default location of the iTunes library will switch back to the old one on your laptop. So, it's always best to have it plugged in before you switch on iTunes. Otherwise it will complain that it can't find the songs. So, always make sure that your hard drive is on, and the location of the library is set correctly.

Hard drive shipments grow rapidly despite recession - 07-25-2008, 08:24 PM

I am just behaving the way a normal american consumer would.

Cause Saks don't got no coupons.
I just stumbled across this article, and couldn't prevent myself from rather uncontrollable giggling and I recalled our conversation about buying wholesale harddrives at Costco! Apparently pets aren't the only ones recession-proof!

I would have posted this in the Industry News section, but it just tied in ever so well with the conversation in this thread

With the overall economy in recession and prices for even the highest-end hard drives plummeting, it would seem likely that the hard drive industry would be in dire financial straits. A new report from industry analysis firm iSuppli, however, indicates that few things are further from the truth. Hard drive firms are shipping a record number of drives with an average size larger than ever before and are making money hand over fist. The new data has some interesting implications for the industry and for storage at large.
