One of the greatest songs ever. I love Leonard Cohen's music and poetry.

Hi Dave

It's hard to say, everyone is different but all of them have in common the "depressive feeling".

"Beautiful Freak" could like those who actually are called "freakys", those that sometimes have felt rejected. "Novocaine for the Soul" belongs to this album. And also the song that names the album, included on the Shrek soundtrack too.

"Electro Shock-Blues" could like to those who have lost someone beloved. Mark Oliver Everett, Eels frontman, singer and composer, wrote this album after his sister and his mother passed away. "Last Stop: This Town" belongs to this album.

"Daisies of the Galaxy" is about losing innocence and childhood. So, those who think that were happier being a child and miss their old friends, maybe could like this one. "It's a mothefucker" belongs to this album.

"Souljacker" and "Soothenany" aren't "conceptual" albums. Are a collection of songs, but you can find very beautiful songs in them, like "Saturday Morning" or "Somebody Loves You".

Finally "Blinking Lights And Other Revelations" is about God. Maybe it's his masterpiece. You can find unusal "guest stars" in it, like Tom Waits & Mark Oliver Everett's dog crying and singing with him. This album is like a summary of all the previous concept albums.

Well, excuse me if my explanation is too long. It's hard to me recommend only one, because I have experience all these feelings sometimes in my life.

But my favorites are "Daisies Of The Galaxy" and "Blinking Lights And Other Revelations".

I like too, my favourite Cohen song is Famous Blue Raincoat. But, talking about Hallelujah, I prefer Jeff Buckley's version.

And talking about depressive music, add Jeff Buckley to the list.

My favorites if Leonard Cohen are "Everybody Knows" - depressive and prosaic - and "So Long Marianne".

Oh biggest mistake to not download Tom Waits - All the world is green.

How can you not feel this:

The face forgives the mirror
The worm forgives the plow
The questions begs the answer
Can you forgive me somehow
Maybe when our story's over
We'll go where it's always spring
The band is playing our song again
And all the world is green

MUST MUST MUST own this song, Dave. Simply must.

Hi Frunze,
All ready a big fan of Tom and Alice has got to be one of my favorite albums. Like blood money aswell and am just re-listening to 'All the world is green'. Agree, it is an excellent choice for this thread (like most of Tom Waits stuff).
Cheers,
Dave

I know! I was just thinking that if one wanted to play Tom Waits music at a party, it would be at a "pity party".

I join to the Tom Waits' Club. Yes, you're right, we forgot him in the "depressive genre". Although my favorite album is Mule Variations, my favorite song is Tom Trauber's Blues, that we didn't include in this thread.
