Do you Back Up? - 07-19-2007, 01:54 AM

Certainly many or most of the members here have vast collections of music. How often to you make backups of your music files? I use a removable hard drive for regular backups and to update my other computers with new music.

Well now...that's...informative.

Just because you buy a new house doesn't mean your car should stop working. Right?

Hi lilkat,

Well, my backup policy is the following :

I backup everything valuable in at least 3 places

a/ one copy, "to be used / worked on, on your computer or external drive.

b/ one perfect backup copy (automatically updated twice a day, incremental)

c/ a third perfect backup copy stored in another safe location, miles away, on a NAS RAID 5 that's automatically updated once every 24 or 48 hours.

My music and other important files are also burned on DVD's once in a while.

This is why my advice is that when you buy a drive (internal or external) you NEVER buy "only" the capacity you need ! ALWAYS buy double or even triple the drive space you need on distinct separate drives !

Pex : If you may need another 250 gigs, budget and buy AT LEAST two 250 gig drives.

/Paranoia

The HD prices are now low enough to allow this to everyone. It's how everything should be backed-up.

Regards

coolapic

I've got a couple of 250GB external hard drives which I swap between work and home. What with photos & music, it can take a while to do so I only bother once a week,
Cheers,
Dave C

i have all the files on my macbook and a external harddisk only for my music files - so if one fails there´s one left. and because i had a lot of bad experiences in loosing files in the past (i´m in grafic and advertisment and if i loose my files there´s no more work and money) i copy all music files also on a server once a week. and i can tell erverbody in this forum not to say: o.k. i should also do this - so i´ll make it tomorrow. SAVE YOUR FILES NOW!
