I have cut down... - 04-23-2007, 05:40 AM

Recently I have been on disability and can not afford to buy Cds like I used
to..But sites like allofmp3 have allowed me to get my daily fix and explore new music..I too was a vinyl junkie, collector and dealer ,and entered into the digital world when they stopped making vinyl...I have supported the music industry for years and still buy Jazz cds to support artists which do not make the big bucks. But the record industry have become to greedy and do not cater to the needs of their customers..They were all happy when they had a monopoly and thought they had us by the balls..No more,we now have options and its pissing off these record executives big time..Hence the rath
on AOM and suing 12 year old girls in the US..they are desperit.. But they do not want to change directions because they are blinded by their own greed.
Also my wife has threatened my life if I don't cut back on my CD buying
because we are running out of storage space..lol..and my new downloadables
are in sleeves and I make nice covers and take up less space..there is now peace in the house..so maybe allofmp3 can lead to world peace..
a stretch maybe but its a step..

When the RIAA see this, they will realize how wrong they are - and how right we are

Thanks Solaris as I told MJ ..if you noticed on AOM3 there is a Blog with 386 threads where no one has flamed anyone, everyone is civil to each other, everyone willing to help each other, and we are all from all around the globe...a great community of like minded music lovers..it is more than likely
we are on to something...and even if it falls apart..we all would have learned something important.

I haven't bought an actual phisical CD in over 3 years. I have a large selection of exsisting CD's. However AllofMp3 has given me the opertunity to try new music and at an aforadable price.

I now keep all of my Music on a Level 3 Raid array its a little excessive however I feel its a worthy investment for all the music I own.

I am currently resting @ 43gb of music and I have a bunch that im waiting to download.

I've got to say that I agree with a lot of what other people have been saying about the RIAA guys getting it all wrong. Around a year ago I used to buy 1 or 2 CDs a month, rip them on to my i-pod and listen to them happily enough. Since finding allofmp3 my musical taste have diversified hugely and I now am buying more CDs (usually from Amazon) for bands who I have found and liked, but who allofmp3 does not have much of a back catalogue for (Decemberists, Divine Comedy, etc). Unless they cotton on to this soon, the ‘Russian’ music sites are going to increase their catalogues so much that I will stop buying CDs altogether; but I guess that is there own stupid fault.
Cheers,
Dave C

The RIAA seems to only have one motive! and its $$$$ money! Instead of wasting time and money with all of the lawsuits they issue and put that money towards developing a economical/User friendly way to purchase and download music then and only then might the public actually start to listen.

In the mean time while the RIAA still kicks and screams thinking that the world is like McDonalds (They can have it their way).

allofmp3 hits the spot because of the sheer range of music available. I am a big Van Der Graaf fan and they've got all of the albums plus most of Pete Hammill's. I've tried to come up with obscure bands and have only once or twice been disappointed. You can't get some of the music on cd's.

Also it gives you the chance to hear something that you wouldn't want to risk £10+ on.

CD's will die sooner or later - and even if allofmp3 goes it will remain the model that everyone will want to emulate. It's popularity goes beyond the fact that it's cheap - they just got it so right.

I still buy CD's from time to time, but only if I know they're good (which mostly means: if I have previewed most of the tracks), and I can find them at a reasonable price. 'Reasonable' starts at around €10, maybe a little higher for really good albums, or lower for 'OK' albums. Lately an online shop did an action where one could buy many CDs for €7 each when bought in pairs, and I seized the opportunity to buy some of the albums I've always wanted, but never bought because of the high price. It's a pity that many of the really good 'classics' (like Pink Floyd albums) always stay at ridiculously high prices.

I still prefer a physical CD for the music I really like, not only for the guaranteed quality, the booklet and artwork, but also because I know I won't lose it if my hard disk crashes and my back-up disk fails. I have actually bought some CD's of albums I already had from AllofMP3.

What's really funny is that I sometimes buy tracks from the Russian/Ukrainian online music stores that I already own on CD - I'm just too lazy to go find it on the precise CD of the 2000+ that I have
