I'm careful to try and support bands when they are not tethered to the RIAA cartel.

A recent example is a band called Pinback, who I really really like. Most of their catalog is on MM/Sparks, but since their albums are on non-RIAA labels, with the exception of two on a label in question; I bought the safe ones, and downloaded the questionable ones. I'll make it up to them later when they tour SoCal.

Take care,

I've been known to do that too. In the beginning I had all my CDs organized by genre and knew where they all were. Now I have too many to do that (probably about 5,000) and so many are in boxes in closets, after having been uploaded onto PC and mp3 players of course. I still will buy CDs, although rarely, to have the liner notes and also sometimes to support the artist or just to have it (like a book). But I NEVER buy them in a store and NEVER pay full price. I get them used (half.com, djangos.com, amazon.com, ebay and also the trading platform lala.com). But like most of the music lovers on this forum, 90% of my music is downloaded online.

Yes ipodfan..same scenario here as well..and I only buy used Cd's
from reliable sources ...you know keep it in the family kind of thing...
people helping people...sometimes when if I'm tapped I sell some of my collection and make sure they get nice new homes where they will be loved and listened to...give most of the dough to my family and of course the rest goes to New music....so used CD's from a reliable source is the way to go with a money back guarentee... and it works for everyone...but the RIAA..

Now, only very very occasionly if its a bargain.
Last week I treated myself to "The Complete Great American Songbook" by Rod Stewart, which is a full 4CD box set for less than £11 delivered as I and my wife are big fans for many years. Each of the 4CD's were probably that price EACH, when they were first released over the last few years?

Yes there are many good buys in used box sets out there that you would not even consider buying otherwise..and it's nice to treat yourself to the great
packaging and insightful booklets enclosed in them...when you like a specific Artist..I recently got a box set of The complete Charlie Parker on Verve
in a beautiful Metal box with sleeves and the Cd's look like 78's records and the enclosed book has beautiful pictures and great liner notes...won a Grammy for packaging..got it for $22...there are still bargains out there
if you check regulary...I download more than buy ..but it is a good option when you you can't find something online..

I usually spend about $15 on the CDs I buy, and they usually have around 15 tracks. I'm perfectly happy paying $1 per song, as long as I get quality. If I can get a CD for that price, then I expect to get CD-quality audio (any lossless format is fine) for the same price downloading. I will NOT pay $1 a track for the poor quality DRM-ridden MP3's of iTunes, only partially because of DRM. MP3 simply is not worth paying the same for as a CD when it is one fifth the quality of a CD. If the selection is limited to MP3, then I flat-out refuse to pay more than 10 to 20 cents per song.

EDIT: Somehow the retarded forum decided to tack my post to the wrong topic...

Hate when the word "retarded" is loosely and inappropriately used. You can always delete and post your post in a proper thread, instead of blaming the forum for your mistake. Otherwise, good post
