Do you buy many CD's anymore? - 04-20-2007, 12:10 PM

With all of the download options available, where you can choose the songs you want, I find myself buying less CD's. I pretty much only buy them now if it's a band that I really like.

Since I found AllOfMP3 more than 3 years ago (and after that all the other Russian and Ukrainian stores), I have been bying even more physical CD's than before - and I have always been buying A LOT of music, ever since the good old vinyl days.

I simply get to listen to so much more music that my musical taste has also expanded enormously.

I probably buy over 100 physical CD's each year. I just haven't been to a (physical) record shop in many years but buy the new stuff on www.bangCD.com or www.music-wow.com and older stuff on Amazon or eBay.

So far, I've never downloaded music online. I have ordered CDs to be shipped, though.

There are some individual songs that I'd like to look for, but I've replaced most of my albums on CD. I'm not into a lot of new pop/rock artists, and I'm not sure that the albums of today have as much of a concept running through them as the ones from previous decades used to, which I think makes them less interesting to own as albums.

Most of the music I've discovered lately has been classical, so I don't mind buying it by the album for the longer pieces. And I'll commit to most of it for a while, because it takes me longer to "access" classical than more popular forms, personally.

I've also been buying more previously viewed DVDs for around $10 Canadian.

Solaris, what you say is directly connected to the real feeling of a "long term, out of his mind, music buyer". I'm Italian, but I've been travelling for many years, mostly in US. I've always spent a lot of money in music, but I had the chance to listen carefully to the lps before buying them ( I mean hours and hours in the shop with headphones) without any problems.
Then I could anyway get a cd for about $10 (a brand new one), so step by step now I own about 2500.
Then I stopped buying 'cause the price is really mad. Here a brand new one (ex: pop music) is more than $36 (!!!!). I'm older than you all I suppose and maybe I could afford that, but I refuse. I can't stand this kind of absolute power of the majors that keep on telling lyes to artists and customers. I don't want anyone to explain me my ideas. I want to choose what, when, how, why I will be going to buy music without any limit about the instrument to play what I've paid for.
Have you seen what Sony did recently with dvds? Crazy.
I want to pay of course but I'm still supposed to have a brain and also to be a free man (maybe) so I want to use my brain and freedom. It's not only a matter of price, it's a matter od respect.

Ciao

CD's are far to expensive, not that it dents my wallet, but I'd rather spend the money somewhere else. Especially when I can just download full albums for free.

Exactly the way I feel about. I have spent too much money in the past on CD's only to find I only liked the one song that made me buy it. However, if I do like all of it, I can get it for free.

I love the option of listening to music first to see what I like, but if I like it, I'll buy it on CD. (Amazon.com....two day shipping...because if I love the music, I can't wait!) The only exceptions I've ever made to that is a couple of songs that were older and I couldn't find them on CDs anywhere.

I should add that I'll buy an album just because the band is so awesomely awesome. I've bought all the TMBG albums just because I feel that I'm robbing my heroes of their deserved money.

I guess that is another thing - we do need to be supportive of the bands we really like and buy their CD's.

I love having CDs. Often I rip them to the computer and MP3 player so I don't worry about scratches. I like the inserts. I like the sound qualiity better than MP3, though that's not a major issue with me.

One other big advantage of CDs is that when you go to a concert, they are great for autographs!
