I wonder why anybody has mentioned one very famous riff. Quite obvious, I guess.

P.S.: I didn`t know about the Jimmy Page rumour, but I think it doesn't sound like Page's guitar. I think that each guitarist has his/her own sound/style, that makes him/her easily recognizable.
Thanks Kalvin,

Jimmy Page started out in the studio as a great session man..Rember
Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donavan...solo by page in that more choppy
style..also when he was with the Yardbirds in I believe the end of
1966 his sound with that band would be more like the style of You Really
Got Me. buzz like choppy go for the throat sound....nothing like the round chunky beautiful razor sharp sound with Zep.

....but they are nice kids and are interested in learning
Electric Blues..The next generation....glad to be passing it on...

geezers still rock - 09-08-2007, 12:31 AM

can't touch vikulenka for contemporary chops. i'm still stuck back there with bill haley.
anyone fancy chuck berry, intro riff to Oh, Carol ?
Mick Taylor (Stones) Honky Tonk Women?
Bo Diddly, I'm a Man?
George Harrison, I Feel Fine?
yeah, i hope social security will support my download habit..... i'm just a fool for that old time stuff.
nightfly, have you heard the ike turner piece, Rockin' 88, which some argue is the Ur-Rock "Let There Be 4-4" piece that started all this? there's a version on his latest, Here and Now, not on Sparks but eMusic. not a guitar piece, but a "moses on the mountain" moment for true believers. thanks for the thread, Kalvin. you got real taste.

Heliospower..you are speaking my language...
If you can't play Chuck Berry ..you can't play "rock and roll"...every rock and roller that plays guitar owes it all to Bill Haley and Chuck Berry
and I love the Stones Live version of Carol from Ya's Ya's..
Yes I have that new Ike Turner album....it's great.. and Rocket 88 was also done in the 50's by I have to investigate and was considered one of the first rock and roll songs..
Bill Wyman had a solo band called Rocket 88 named after that song...
I once stated on this site that one of my first concerts was The Ike and Tina
Turner Review in 1966 at Palisades Amusement Park in NJ...rocked my little
world and I was never the same..Ike always put together a rocking band and was a great arranger and guitar player...If he wasn't such a bad dude
in real life he could have been more famous..but I am happy for Tina's
tremendous success..

nightfly, you're impossible to stump, oozing good taste, and musically well-travelled. your students are lucky, and if you only lived closer, i'd be one.
