Favorites guitar riffs - 09-07-2007, 02:28 PM

Hi Friends

Yesterday I was thinking that lately my contributions here are being poor. So, I've though about an easy way to compensate this, and here we go.

Which are your favorite guitar riffs?

Here are my favorites:

Voodo Chile (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix & Stevie Ray Vaughan (BOTH!)
Sweet Child O'Mine - Slash (Guns N' Roses)
Layla - Eric Clapton (Derek & The Dominos)
Walk This Way - Joe Perry (Aerosmith)
You Really Got Me - Dave Davies (The Kinks)

Oh! I didn't include anything by Marillion, although Steve Rothery is a great guitarist!! This is all crazy! What is wrong with me? Nevermind, Steve Rothery deserves another thread, about guitar solos. Maybe someday...

Hard to choose, but Jan Akkerman (of Focus) on both Hocus Pocus (especially the live version from Live at the Rainbow) and Sylvia is an all time favourite. I can do the latter (to a fashion), but the former is harmonically quite tricky!

Nice choice! Jan Akkerman. Recently, Marillion covered Hocus Pocus, just for fun. It's a quite acceptable cover and a funny live album: Friends. Unfortunately this album is not available at the russians shops (I think).

If I can fastforward this just a little bit chronologically,

I really love "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes!

If you add more as you think of them you're going to need an entire forum just to yourself

I must admit that I started this tread thinking about you. Great selection. I specially agree with the AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long.

I wonder why anybody has mentioned one very famous riff. Quite obvious, I guess.

P.S.: I didn`t know about the Jimmy Page rumour, but I think it doesn't sound like Page's guitar. I think that each guitarist has his/her own sound/style, that makes him/her easily recognizable.
