Great Live Albums - 08-02-2007, 09:51 PM

Hi Friends!

Usually is difficult to artists to catch their real essence in live albums, although they can be very good live players. And it's almost obligatory for any artist to release a live album, at least once in their career.

Posting about Marillion I've thought that there are some great live albums: the artists at their best moment.

Which albums do you think can be considered "Great Live Albums"?

Here are my favorites:

The Theaving Magpie - Marillion
Paris - Supertramp
Live At The Fillmore East (or Band Of Gypsys) - Jimi Hendrix (Nightfly, you were there, you're a lucky man!)
Live After Death - Iron Maiden
Live Rust & Year Of The Horse - Neil Young wih Crazy Horse

Big Love is my favorite song EVER. It's at #1 on my iPod's most played list. I don't know that I've ever heard a more raw and emotional singing/playing in my life.

2 of these I know well ... Band Of Gypsys .. There is a box set of all the
whole shows (early and late) ..I still have the Playbill from the Fillmore ..if you pm me your email addy.. I will scan the cover and cool Bio Pages and send as a attachement..It's with the Lp somewhere..give me 2 days...lol...
and Rust Never Sleeps...Love ....Neil Young and Crazy Horse...These
guys play hard and strong ....shows that old players don't have to fade away..
I will add to the List have to think this one over...I have a few of them..

Good post,

Nightfly

I highly recommend Lauryn Hill's MTV Unplugged album. Absolutely stunning. Some may find the songs quite heavy in content, as it does have strong political and social views, but don't let that obscure the simplicity of each, as the whole album is just acoustic. Very good to listen to when your chilling out.

I think "old" Neil Young plays his best with Crazy Horse. But I like also his "solo" albums. And the one he did with Pearl Jam, Mirror Ball, is very interesting.
