Should have called my bluff. There's no way I'm getting out of bed at dawn for anything

1.Pink Floyd(Wish You Were Here/Animals)
2.The Doors
3.Dire Straits
4.Boston(Boston)
5.Kansas
6.Led Zeppelin
7.Peter Frampton

Country:
Anything sound a likes from the Merle Haggard,George Jones,Marty Robbins,Willie Nelson,Charley Pride,Conway Twitty era?

I have heard of many of the newer artists from the USA,both country and rock, and don't like them much.
It is the artists that maybe have never been released or went mainstream in the US that I am interested in.
I found this artist,Johannes Hopfner,that I like on jamando.com.
Or Solal. This group is good too,but only has 1 album.
Never heard of them before and probally never would have if I didn't just pick a wildcard.

Some really good mellow flattop guitar pickin' would be good too.
Stuff like Mike Oldfield.
Who cares what language the artist speaks as long as they can pick a good tune?

I never tire of pointing people in the direction of Dutch band the Nits. They tick several of your boxes and have been churning out remarkably inventive albums for some 25 years now without anyone outside of continental Europe noticing. The only difficulty is knowing where to start, since they're all pretty different from one another (this is a band with a very low boredom threshhold). Plus, as with the Beatles, they cover a lot of musical territory - none of which is easily summed up in a one-word description. But if you don't like the first track you hear, try a few more before you make your mind up. Sparks have a pretty good Best Of called Nest here: Nits, Nest: MP3 Download (Me, I especially like track 12, for obvious reasons)

Thanks to everyone for the tips.
I listened to two tracks of each of the artists mentioned, will have to revisit all except Peter Green and JJ Cale.
Liked both tracks I heard from each of those two.
Looking to download some of them already.

Kasbian likes the bass a lot.
John Martyn sounds somewhat like old time blues.
JJ Cale almost sounds like Eric Clapton.
The Nits I listened to 4 tracks, each sounds like a different artist.
Tough call on that one,I will have to listen to 4 more.

The rest I already know of or already have.

And oh yeah.
I checked the remember me box.I'll see what happens.

Edit:
Nope.I lie.I just noticed I missed one.The Black Keys.
Will check on that next.

ReEdit:
Had a listen to The Black Keys.
Yeah, they are good.Sounds like something right out of Woodstock!
Gonna get me some of this too!

JJ Cale wrote "After midnight", "Cocaine", "I'll make love to you anytime" which became huge hits after Clapton covered them. They did a CD together called "The Road to Escondido" in 2006.

After Midnight & Cocaine being (probably obvious) favourites of mine of Eric Clapton. I am very fond of their Road to Escondido album, which was long in the making. I read Eric Clapton's autobiography last year and he goes on and on about JJ Cale. And no, I am not Clapton's #1 fan, lol. I was sort of in a zone for a few weeks last year, particularly after having seen him live.

Great album, not to layed back as you would expect with good guitar playing.

I can give you a list of some of the bands I like and what their influences are. Some of them might be bands/artists that you might like also:

Sun Kil Moon - Neil Young from the classic period of "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere"

Jose Gonzalez - acoustic guitarist who's been compared to Nick Drake.

ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) - The Band, The Grateful Dead, Phish

The Thorns - super group with only 1 album, but if you miss CSN's 3-part harmony, you'll find it here.

The Frames - several tracks on their "The Cost" cd reminded me so much of Cat Stevens that I had to stop what I was doing and make sure.

Duffy - Dusty Springfield/60's Motown.

Drive-by Truckers - Southern rock in the Lynyrd Skynyrd tradition.

Idlewild - their "100 Broken Windows" cd definitely made REM fans.

Iron & Wine - a unique talent, but in the Nick Drake vein

the be good tanyas - Dixie chicks

The Bravery - The Cure
