Looking for new artists - 05-26-2008, 02:50 PM

I'm not sure if I should be called old fogey or what, but most of the new artists of today really doesn't appeal to me.
And I like a lot of different genres.

There are a lot of bands out there, many I have never even heard any of their music.
I pick one as a wildcard now and then, and very seldom find one I like.

Do any of these newer artists sound like or resemble the style of any of these groups?
Rock:
1.Pink Floyd(Wish You Were Here/Animals)
2.The Doors
3.Dire Straits
4.Boston(Boston)
5.Kansas
6.Led Zeppelin
7.Peter Frampton
8.Ted Nugent
9.The Moody Blues
10.ZZ Top
11.CCR
12.Black Sabbath

Country:
Anything sound a likes from the Merle Haggard,George Jones,Marty Robbins,Willie Nelson,Charley Pride,Conway Twitty era?

I have heard of many of the newer artists from the USA,both country and rock, and don't like them much.
It is the artists that maybe have never been released or went mainstream in the US that I am interested in.
I found this artist,Johannes Hopfner,that I like on jamando.com.
Or Solal. This group is good too,but only has 1 album.
Never heard of them before and probally never would have if I didn't just pick a wildcard.

Some really good mellow flattop guitar pickin' would be good too.
Stuff like Mike Oldfield.
Who cares what language the artist speaks as long as they can pick a good tune?

EDIT: What is with the time limit anymore when being logged in?
The short time that I wrote this message to a text document, then paste it in the new thread I'm starting,I had to re-login.
It logs me out too soon unless I keep active with new pages.

Hi Rolly,
I'm in a similar position to you, always struggling to find new stuff to listen to and not liking a lot of the more modern acts.
One newish band I have been impressed with have been The Black Keys - someone recommended them here and I ended up downloading all their albums.
Also I'd recommend - if you haven't got their stuff already - Beck, JJ Cale, Robin Trower, John Martyn, Neil Young, Kasabian, Tom Petty, Creedence, Peter Green.
I often find it helps to find a compilation album for a particular style of music -blues rock, for example - and then listen to albums by the artists featured on there.
Good luck.

This must be something that aom3 can help you with, rolly I have NEVER experienced being logged off the forum, unless I chose to do this myself

Rolly,

I have expereienced the logging out problem as well.
When you first sign on there is a box to the right "remember me"
check it, and you will not be logged out after a certain inactive
period.
