I am glad you interpreted my cryptic message correctly as a solicitation for a recommendation

As long as speaking Urdu is not considered elitist, I think we'll be OK.

Gonna have to give Massive Attack a pass. Not my thing.

Urdu on the other hand - that's a different story. We can speak Urdu whil riding the subway while wearing matching purple headphones in New York!

No problem! And you know what - there will be there someone who understands. Nothing is impossible in the City.

LOVE the city.

Have you seen this movie called "The Last Seduction"? It is my absolute favorite movie of all time. The woman is having to stay away from the City for a while, but she loves it so much she changes her name to... my next pseudonym if I have to change names on this site!

I tried chaning names, remember? You are gonna have to get a whole new IP address to go along with it or be a lot less obvious, such that Solaris (or one of his many incarnations) don't figure you out

that thing.... yeah.... that's the one I've been able to successfully avoid thus far, because never had an issue with funding.

The music is hip-hoppy, trip-hoppy, and otherwise very gorgeous, and although not from the US, the band took off here and some films used songs for soundtracks (Sliver, Hackers, recent show called House, etc.)

So what I am looking for is some bands similar to the early Massive Attack without being too contrived and pretentious, like Morcheeba, or way too electronic-like or trippy. Anybody got any recommendations?
Hi Frunze,

may I recommend the following:
Barry Adamson (for some considered the grandfather of trip-hop) - The Murky World of Barry Adamson
Archive - Take my head
Alpha - Pepper
Beth Gibbons (singer of Portishead)
Craig Armstrong - the space between us (producer of Massive Attack)
Goldfrapp - Felt mountain

also the first albums by Bjork have similar sounds

(and in any case, I would not describe the first two Morcheeba albums aas pretentious)
