Music While You Work? - 04-15-2007, 02:50 PM

Do you like to have music playing while you work?

I usually prefer instrumentals playing in the background while I'm working at the computer. I usually find vocal tunes distracting.

For me it depends from the situation. I mean, if I write about something I like (ex: music) I can also listen to heavy metal. If I write about things I hate (ex: politicians) I should listen only to some kind of new age or similar "calm you down" music. I'm already angry in that case. lol

I love to listen to my music, but I have to admit, it can be very distracting when you are trying to work. I tend to focus more on my music. So, if I listen to music, it would have to probably be something I wouldn't really pay as much attention to, like classical, etc.

I sometimes find classical music a good background choice for driving in rush hour. I think it has a calming effect.

That's one kind of music that has taken me a long time to get into, but I have found some areas of it that I really like, too.

I set my WMP or MP3 on random and listen to music ALL DAY. To me, it's more distracting to listen to everything going on around me than listening to music.

In high school, I used to listen to music while I did my homework and would fall asleep to Motley Crue...guess that's whay I have to have the TV on or music playing to fall asleep now.

Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

Hells yeah music while I work. Usually I listen to Erik Satie when I'm crunching numbers.

Well, that's just the problem - it takes your mind off work. I need to be focused while I work.

I listen when I'm feeling too tired to work. Music revives me. I also listen when I'm feeling distracted. I know it doesn't make sense, you'd think that the songs would distract me, but I find that music helps me to focus.
