Is September about to break into the UK charts? - 04-13-2008, 01:39 AM

I like good movies, but from time to time I enjoy a Michael Bay film.

In the same way, in music I like interesting music with substance but I also like bubblegum stuff like September (Petra Marklund) - although maybe the Michael Bay analogy is a bit harsh on her

Anyway, at the moment her song Cry For You is no 3 on UK iTunes, and apparently she's been played on Radio 1. Which I find exciting, having listened to her albums for the last couple of years. It'd be very bizarre if she was a sleeper hit (I guess we'll find out tomorrow or next couple of weeks).

What I'm not too jazzed about is the way she seems to be being promoted. Take this poor UK video which appears to be marketing her as an oversexed Kylie/Britney type.

Contrast that with the original here which displays a bit more identity, or this acoustic version which shows she has a good voice.

Couple that with this article, and you can see exactly who it's being aimed at (for those abroad, The Sun is a paper that has naked women on page 3...not that I'd know, of course).

I'm under no illusions, some of the lyrics to her songs don't make sense, but she has a decent voice, her songs are fun and endearing and I hate seeing her marketed at the Call On Me crowd. Jeez.

The difference between the two videos is quite incredible.
The song itself is surely catchy enough to be a hit without resorting to portraying her as something she is not.

It is a sad fact of life that record company executives think there is only one way to promote a good looking female artist.

Surely if the music is good enough and gets heard by enough people, it will stand on it`s own merits and be successful whatever the image that accompanies it.

Or I am I being too naive to think that in the world that we live in?

As they say, sex sells....
Sad, but true.

Lol, does that mean you bought Call On Me, Solaris? (my future respect for you depends on your answer )

Good news is that yes, September broke into the UK charts at number 9! (on downloads alone, because the CD's released today) It was funny because the presenters came to number 9 and were like, "who the hell is this? we don't know anything about her? why is she in this week's charts?"

Awesome. Wonder if she'll fall or rise next week.

Speaking of falling or rising, I bet solaris is "rising" just thinking about the "Call On Me" video

Lol. I hope not. I'm not talking about Laleh's Call on Me, I'm talking about this atrocity:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-2iwGeZ2O4

It went to NUMBER ONE in the UK. Just thinking about it makes me want to kill myself.

Rip of of Jamie Lee Curtis & John Travolta in "Perfect"

YouTube - Hot and Sweaty Scene from "Perfect"

A friend of mine was looking for a soudtrack to this film to work out to. Dreamy, as always, came through with the obscure album!

LOL. That was mesmerising. Not something I ever want to see again though.

HOW the hell did you know that? You're a Travolta obsessive?
