Vicky Love! - #1000 - 08-06-2007, 06:19 AM

Artist :- Biagio Antonacci
Album :- Vicky Love

I purchased this album on a whim for no better reason than its name!
(I love my name. I do! Really!)

What magic, passion, love!.... and I don't even speak Italian!

Having grown up overhearing my older sister's music selection (Adriano
Celentano, Toto Cutugno, Julio Iglasias, Joe Dassin, etc, etc, etc.)
this album is an absolute jam.

His raspy voice is really striking. The artist is new to me, although
he's been around for awhile - but I think he's an instant classic.

Favourite tracks are "Cocinella" (simply astounding!) and "Sognami" (a
fast pased acoustic guitar driven number with the elements of
Argentinian tango. I can see bits of Astor Piazzolla escaping from the
song.)

What can I say about this one??? - BELISSIMO!

if you like this style: have you ever heard about vasco rossi - he is kind of a italian superstar (also check out the early albums - their real great). I´ve seen this guy life in roma in the 80´s - never forget this experience.
zucchero is also one of the great italian stars.

Yes, Biagio is VERY popular here in Italy!
I like most of his songs, even if it's not my favorite kind of music...
Oh, and have you got an account on Mp3fiesta? Because they have basically everything he has ever released!

Here is the link...

Ciao, a presto!

I am not a purist by any means, in the sense that I have to have an artist's every album they've ever released, if I like him/here. There's so much music out there - I try to sample a little bit of everything, rather than have one of the same thing.

However, I will check it out. I will also go for some more Italian artists of this genre. I already have a few Italian albums, including the ones bokr mentioned.

Thank you,
Thanks, Nightfly.

My plan is to take A LOT longer to get to 2000.

So far that plan is not working!

My sister was right after all

Artist :- Biagio Antonacci
Album :- Vicky Love

Vick,
I didn't expect to like this album...but I do a great deal.
I listened with the sampler and liked it so much I d/l ed it.
This album has sophisticated pop sensibilities, and his voice I really dig.
I love when it cracks and still sounds passionate..
I listen often to world music but this is my first Italian album.
I wish I would have done better when I took Italian in college,
I figured I spoke some Spanish.. this would be a breeze...wrong
my C- told me otherwise...now I wish I understood more...
But I will now search for more such like Italian albums and take a break
from my Latin records...
Thanks for this great review and this recommend..

European music was all the rage in Russia when I was growning up in the 80s and my sister ( who is 17 years older than me ) was listening to all of them ABBAs, and Toto Cutugnos, and Joe Dassins of the world. Funny that I'm rediscovering all that now on my own - but it's nothing new to me.

It's a whole wide world - ask Bruno

I bet my sister has never heard of Biagio Antonacci - or maybe she has. Not sure.

Anyway - enjoy. Glad you like it.

Htoo Eain Thin - 08-07-2007, 05:15 AM

I'm very partial to all music of the world. Have a particular weaness to this one Burmese singer/songwriter Htoo Eain Thin (fave album called "With Love ...", his last, before his untimely death at the age of 40, and released after his death.

A friend of mine, who is a complete music junkie, brought me a couple of his CDs from a trip.

Htoo Eain Thin's look bore a striking, if perhaps intentional, likeness to John Lennon - probably due to his use of round specs.

Check out this song on YouTube. This is my favourite song of his.

YouTube - Htoo Eain Thin - kyay twin sung tat ngya (a starry night)

He is considered a huge icon and a huge pioneer in Burmese music.

Vik
