But no kidding around, even though I don't own any
Metallica music,I can definitely see their merits and
they deserve their large audience base.

Got to have these bad boys on my Metallica list:

The Memory Remains
Nothing Else Matters
Ain't My Bitch
Until It Sleeps
King Nothing
and of course...Enter Sandman!

I have guitar students and some times we jam on Metallica riffs, after
our Blues lessons..
I don't know they are Metallica riffs until they tell
me...
It's fun to put my effects box on heavy sustain and have some fun.

I will at least get these 5 songs, and play one of them when we are
warming up...to freak them out.....

More on Metallica - 06-26-2008, 08:41 PM

I didn't know a lot about Metallica until I moved to the Bay area in late 80's, obviously they were HUGE out there being it their home base turf.

Kirk Hammett is a dynamite guitar player, seeing him live was incredible to say the least. Hammett and Iommi are my 2 favorite hard rock / metal guitarists.

"Some Kind of Monster" is a very interesting documentary, really details the band and their personal / creative differences and personalities. Well worth watching if you have any interest in these guys, can pick it up at BB.

There is not a bad U2 song to me, so it is hard to narrow down to 10. Well, I didn't like Playboy Mansion off Pop, but other than that all are good!

Go with my list, and add Enter Sandman & Nothing Else Matters to it. The newer stuff just isn't Metallica to me. I've seen them on every tour since Ride The Lightning and am a hardcore fan. I am all for change and evolution of bands, but the Black album was overplayed, Load and Re-Load had some decent tracks and St Anger Try out their cover of Bob Seger's Turn The Page, or Lynyrd Skynyrd Tuesday's Gone, and if you want to go deep, try Breadfan (great guitar work)

If you do check out the song "The Memory Remains", the creepy-ish female voice in the middle of the song is Marianne Faithful. She repeats verse from the movie "The Misfits" with Marilyn Monroe ("Say yes... at least say hello...").

(The Misfits was the last movie MM and Clark Gable did in their careers.)
