Hi Bokr,
I agree that the Ben Harper album is an excellent one. Have you tried any of his other stuff?. The only other one I have got is 'There Will Be A Light' (with The Blind Boys Of Alabama). On the back of this one, and with the help of a recommendation from Nightfly, I got the Blind Boys Of Alabama's three album back catalog from mp3sparks and they are v. good as well,
Cheers,
Dave C

Hey bokr,

Dave and I discussed Ben Harper somewhere but out of thread somewhere
lol..but it made sense then ..but I agree"Lifeline" is one of his most consistant and satifying albums...could you explain the "bens goose-struck voice" adjective...Glad you started a Ben Harper thread..

Dave.. Glad you liked the Blind Boys from Alabama albums..thought you might.

Thanks,

Nightfly

Leo Kottke (a fine 'picker if ever there was one) once famously described his singing as sounding like "goose farts on a foggy morn". Perhaps a 'goose-struck voice' is a more socially acceptable description of the same vocal quality?
I hasten to add I quite like Kottke's mellow baritone and will check out the Ben Harper recommend asap.

Yes he(Leo Kottke) is one the finest acoustic players in the world but
you get used to his quirky baritone voice after a while and he
can really deliver a song like say "Louise" or "Pamela Brown"..
Thanks for that response ...but I am curious what bokr
has to say for himself...

Take care,

Nightfly

hy all, in german we say we get a goose-struck (gänsehaut) when we are in a special mood - or even when itīs cold thatīs when the little hairs in your pores on your arms are standing up. so we say goose-struck-voice to a very emotional voice. is there a special word for goose-struck (gänsehaut) in english?
I also have the both side of... album from ben - which ones are your favourits?
best from vienna

Thanks so much bokr for your great explanation.. as Vik said we call them
goose bumps here ..
and yes Ben does at times give a goose-struck performance..
My other favorite album by him is "Diamond on the Inside"..very soulful
and his live one "Live From Mars" shows off his excellent guitar playing.

Most of his albums are excellent but very different..try to sample them
on Sparks first and see which ones suits you..He also does great reggae.

Take care and thanks,

Nightfly
