Hi Nightfly
I must admit that there is some hip-hop that I don't mind. Being brought up where you were would certainly give you a much different perspective. What I do really enjoy is watching really good hip-hop dancers. I think that helps draw me to the music a bit more, but my knowledge is pretty much zilch. Rap, that's a bit harder and I agree with you about gangsat rap.

What did surprise me is I saw Eminem's movie Eight Mile High (?) and really quite enjoyed it although it never inspired me to buy any of his music.
It's great to expand horizons and taste different samples, but if you don't like it you don't like it. It's sort of like reading a novel; if you get a third of the way through and you're not inspired then there is nothing that compels you to finish it. If one doesn't like it, then they don't like it. You don't have to listen to something ad nauseum in hope one day you'll finally like it!

At least I'm proud to say I enjoy a much wider taste in music than I did ten years ago. I like to think that counts for something, even if it only counts for something to me.
Now, back to some of those artists that have been mentioned.
