I spent this (rainy) morning listening to the new releases by Lucinda Williams (Little Honey) and Jenny Lewis (Acid Tongue). I liked about half the Lucinda release, but the Jenny Lewis I would definately give a thumbs up, sort of a Suzanne Vega meets Tori Amos on prozac...in a good way. Great lyrics too.

I agree the Lucinda Williams has some great moments, but some rather
cliche moments done before by her

We have discussed the Jenny Lewis record in detail in another Thread
and I gave it a big thumbs up.Sorry don't know where it is.
I really dig that album. Thanks for the post.I will try to think of some other
alt/country women I listen to.Rosanne Cash comes to mind.

Thanks Kaeli I will take a look as I am currently trying to broaden my country tastes, under expert tuition I might add.

thanks for the tip on Lewis. i have not heard her. i was shying away from Williams for the very reasons you and Nightfly mention. speaking of Williams, do you folks think "car wheels on a gravel road" is the only album one needs?

Acid Tongue is indeed excellent.

How about Neko Case? She hasn't had a new album for a while but I still listen to Fox Confessor Brings The Flood all the time.

I have never really got into Lucinda Williams...have Car Wheels on a Gravel Road and Essence but neither really grab me.

Lucinda's first 2 albums were her best and Live at The Filmore(can be gotten
for free by Lavamus members). She does great duets and is a great singer.
"Car Wheel on a Gravel Road" is definitely one of most even records.

The word "country" rings alarm bells with me - not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. But when Kaeli mentioned Suzanne Vega - one of my favourite artists - I thought I'd have a listen to Jenny Lewis. Glad I did - her stuff sounds excellent and I'll be investigating further when I get some time. Can't say she sounds very "country" though.

Another Kaeli winner!

Ahh, but there appears to be country and country.

I must admit my country listening was more mainstream stuff but after a recommendation by Nightfly I tried an album by Reckless Kelly and found it to be very good.

I am going to try out some of the others, where did you listen to Jenny Lewis?

Preview on sparks/allTunes and Lavamus not working.

Update:
Lavamus preview now seems to be working.

Well, I'm not going to say you're not paying attention but - as I mentioned in another thread - you can listen to full-length previews on mp3sale. They have a couple of her albums there (don't know how many she's done). Very low bitrate though, so I'll get them elsewhere.

I'm sorry, I should, as someone used to be keen on saying, try to 'keep up'!

I have just been listening to some of Lucinda Williams 'Live At The Fillmore' on Lavamus, she seems to have a slightly soulful sound.
