Thumbs up Lennon Murphy! - 08-06-2007, 03:25 AM

one night out on the town i happened to run across this wild beauty. i was out on the town and was heading towards one of my favorite pubs. i was planning on knocking back a few cold ones when i ran across Lennon. this energetic, tattooed, pierced girl rocked my world. i had never heard of her and had no idea what she was doing in montana.

most of the songs she and her rowdy band played that night were off the album...5:30 saturday morning. since that crazy night i have bought all her albums. by far, 5:30 saturday moring is my favorite album.

5:30 saturday morning---the album came out in 2001. there a 12 tracks on the album and i can honestly say i love them all. this girl is kind of a mix, from the soft parts of songs, tori amos or fiona apple. on the other hand, to the fast, loud, screaming of fly leaf lead singer. i dont know her name. she kind of sounds like alanis in a way.

this girls is really wild and she does swear some what on this album.
perhaps this comes from her harsh background, culminating in the loss of her mother and in the process, becoming the guardian of her 8-year old sister.

there is a mix of fast and slow songs on this album. she plays the piano on one song that is very emotional. on the other hand, there are guitar riffs that sound like god smack, or maybe this side of metallica.

bottom line this gal is very emotional about her music. she has had a hard life and grown up fast. i really enjoy listening to this chick and wish i could take that night back that i saw her for the first time. i did manage to snag her autograph, which was very cool.

i did not find her 5:30 saturday morning on sparks or mm. however, they do have her new album damaged goods this album i don’t feel is nearly the quality as 5:30, but it's not bad. if you can round up 5:30 saturday morning i would highly recommend downloading it.

here is her myspace page--

MySpace.com - www.myspace.com/lennon

thanks,

Shadman

Chad,
I did give this album a listen to tonight on my first listen
I have mixed feelings..She is no doubt very talented and I like
the anger in the music and she gets it across well..but the record itself
is to overproduced for my liking...and I'm sure this band is alot better
live, than on album ,like when you first saw her and got that vibe.
As you know some artists are better live, but she is very young and
I think when she gets the right producer she will create a really
special record....that will really make her break out...She is a work
in progress, that I am definitely interested in hearing from again..

By the way I listened to "Career Suicide" which has Lennon stripped
down to just a piano and some band works..I think this gives more of a essence of her as a artist..those that are scared off by the metal approach
on "5:30 Sat. Morning" should give this one a shot. This one shows a artist
with great potential and diversity.

Thanks again,

Nightfly

What a wonderful response.

Althought I'm afraid I'm going to have to give this artist a miss, as I think I've passed (at least for the moment) the stage in my life where Alanis Morisette, Liz Phair, Avrile Lavigne, Meredith Brooks and other angst and anger driven music struck a chord.

wow thanks for the follow up.

she has had a rollercoster of a career. thanks for your opinion. your probably right she was better live. i just really like the 5:30 album. that was many years ago that i saw her. the only reason i did the review was because i was looking for an old grateful dead album that i have to burn and send to Kalvin. i stumbled across the cd. i thought some might enjoy her. she was such a firecracker to see live. her explosive energy was mind blowing. i have not been a big fan of her new stuff but i think she is a great artist and would travel to see her. thanks again for your opinion.

you are the man,

you are the man,
Thanks Chad ..I will passing on her MP3's, on to my
cousin Mike to listen to, he programs the alternative music listening channel for cable TV and I think this is something he'd play.. He emailed me back tonight and said he will try and get a bio from the Record company...as well as CDs...they need to post a picture and background facts....and he said he heard of her.
This is something he would like for his station...so if he gets the bio ..I'll let
you know and maybe he'll give it up ...and I'll send it your way...It's a small
label but you know ..sometimes they might think cable TV is not good enough for them..lol..but I'll give you a follow up..in about 2 weeks.

Take care,

Nightfly
