Mercury Music Prize -
09-04-2007, 11:57 PM
Just finished watching the Mercury Music Prize; which is the only decent award ceremony (in the UK anyway) and it was another good one. Slightly disappointed that ‘Bat for Lashes’ never won it, but the Klaxon album is an excellent one, so I shouldn’t moan too much. What I like about the Mercury Music Prize is that they always seem to short list a really excellent & varied selection of UK bands, some of which boarder on the obscure (never heard of Fionn Regan or The Young Knives before the nominations and will be downloading them after tonight). Do any of you other countries out there have similar awards, which are not just rehashing the popular & commercial bands (i.e. not the Brits, Grammy’s or other ones listed on the mp3sparks ‘awards’ page?) I do like the Pitchfork awards, so something else like that?
Cheers,
Dave C

Thanks for the welcome back. I have had an excellent couple of weeks taking it easy on the banks of Loch Lomond . Two & half weeks without any access to the internet is freaky , but it is the only way to get away from work properly . Spent quite a bit of the holiday reading all of the old music mags I used to buy when I was younger, so I have been giving allofmp3 a bit of a hammering over the past day or so downloading all of the stuff which got the nod by various reviewers. Will let you know if any of it is worth a mention after further review,
Cheers,
Dave C

Hi Shadman,
I spent quite a bit of the evenings (no baby sitters ) drinking wine, eating haggis & catching up on some of the stuff I have downloaded over the past several months. Came across one of your recommendations (at least I think it was you ); Rollerball:- Real Hair. Did not think all that much of this when I first got it, but it has grown on me alot . Just goes to show that you should always go back and give things a second chance,
Cheers,
Dave C

DaveC you do realise you were mentioned on Channel4.com?

Slightly disappointed that Bat for Lashes didn't win, DaveC was nonetheless pleased:
