Once (movie) - 01-20-2008, 12:46 AM

I'd like to recommend a movie I just watched called "Once". The plot's very simple and barely there - essentially surrounds 2 struggling singer/songwriters in Dublin. A young girl and a guy, in a sort of wrong time wrong place friendship/love story. Both are singers in real life, and have written and composed all the songs for the film. The soundtrack is just lovely. I downloaded it right away after watching the film. Suggest you watch the movie first. The film's got a real humanity and sweetness about it - and no, it's not a chick flick. I really enjoyed it and decided to share with you all.

Maybe I better watch this (if you promise it isn't too Dirty Dancing-like)

It currently holds a brilliant 8.1 score on IMDB (see attachment) - so at least that part surely looks promising

I think the soundtrack is more Knightfly/Dave C sort of stuff - but I think you might enjoy it, Dreamy. It's a lovely movie.

It's set in Dublin, which sort of took me back a lot to my summer trip in a really nice way as well.

Not available on ZML.com and not released on DVD in Oz yet.
Oh well, that's what you have to put up with when, as a former Prime Minister so eloquently put it, you live at 'the arse end of the World'

Maybe you could bring a copy with you (but you better be right about it not being a chick flick - the labrador can't abide them)

It's definitely not.

By the way, speaking of Austrtalians, I'm listening to Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, and being reminded of that rigged vote you had on your Oz radio a few months back!

P.S. Lab looks fabulous in his white-rimmed glasses. Very glamorous. More Grace Kelly, less Mika

It came up in my itunes random play on second movement, and I of course stopped it and put on the whole thing.

Listening to the Oistrakh recording at the moment, but I do love Perlman as well, and Vengerov, whom I heard play it live.

It's my favourite concerto - I'd be satisfied with Squash's lab's performance as well, I think
