Hi,
Probably not the best person to answer this as I tried porcupine tree and could not really get into them. Have you seen Acordis's comments in the thread "Alternative & Prog". He mentions a band IQ.
The one 'similar' record & band I would recommend is 'Second Life Syndrome' by Riverside. I was really surprised by this; one of the best prog-rocks I've heard in a long time.

Hi Bokr, I love Porcupine Tree, (just listening to Shesmovesdon from Lightbulb Sun that I deeply suggest to listen) and of course I love progressive and new prog (when it's good).
Their last album "Fear of a blank planet" needs to be listened (ex: My ashes). But if you like progressive take a look at Marillion's "Marbles", Pendragon "Not of this world" , Magnum "Princess Alice and the Broken Arrow", just to mention some. There are so many ways in which progressive is lived by bands, you need to try and find your fav.
I'm not mentioning the old big progressive bands that need a special issue (lol).

Ciao

Haroldissimo: Marillion Prog-Rock? - 05-25-2007, 07:59 PM

Hi Haroldissimo

I'm a big fan of Marillion (an spanish fan club member, in fact), but I don't think they're actually a progressive band. They're becoming a kind of High Quality Pop Band (a new label that I use, trying to define them). But I agree with you: Marbles is a very good album, probably their best, with Brave and This Strange Engine.

If you like Progressive, have you listened to Transatlantic? I you don't I recommend you. They are a MegaBand with some members of Marillion, Spock's Beard and Dream Theater.

I also recommend you a band called Kino.

Kalvin
