Do I need to change a setting? - 02-15-2008, 07:48 PM

These days when I click 'New Posts' I only seem to get ones that were posted in about the last hour. I could swear I used to have a much longer time frame. I've tried looking at user settings to see if I've changed anything by mistake but can't see any option relating.

Anyone got any bright ideas

It is because you press the New Posts link in shorter intervals, than you have done before - therefore you only see the ones that have been changed, since the last time you pressed the link

Normally I go to 'New Posts', read the first new post and when I'm done I click new posts again and then select the next new post. Sometimes when I've got half way through the list I get the 'no new posts' message. I'm sure it didn't work like that in the past

By the way, like the new avatar the first time you've ever changed it I think?

Hirs,

What I do when my new posts are not there because of time
I go to search then todays posts and everything you haven't read
yet will be highlighted.

Cheers,

Nightfly

No, I have in fact changed it a few times before - but it must have been at least 6 month since the last time I did such a mentally overwhelming thing

If you're unsure if this function works properly, then use Quick Links - Today's Posts a few times until you're sure that there isn't anyone with higher powers manipulating your fragile mind

Hi Nightfly, yes I do much the same thing, but sometimes I'm just a lazy so and so and 'New Posts' is easiest

Hi Hirs.

I have another theory about this...

When you left click New Posts and you don't have time to read them all at that exact moment in time - and you forget to tab them all immediately, then what happens the next time you left click New Posts is that the forum software thinks that you have already read the "old" New Posts and only shows you the "New" New Posts.

Then you have to use Today's Posts instead...

Did this make any sense to you?

Hi Solaris, yes it makes perfect sense and I think, on reflection, that's what going on.

The only slight drawback is that 'Today's Posts' will show all posts over the last 24 hours. That's fine and probably a better feature than 'New Posts' however if, before I've read them all, I or someone else posts a reply then 'New Posts' takes precedence over 'Today's Posts' and I'm back to square one

Hirs, Solaris himself has never experienced a situation where he has more then 1-2 new posts since his last visit. Therefore, he doesn't understand our pain!
